Re: don't blow me over with your generosity Mr. Bush and Congress

you can be like the company I do work with. They are downgrading all of the benefits for "permalancers", taking away the 5 days measly time off, holiday pay, and going to hourly pay...

AND they wanted to tell people with a handout when they went to pick up the xmas party invite.

nice, right?

yeah, you gotta love it. They have no "staff", rely on permalancers, and now screw them completely. AND god forbid you are a youngster making peanuts...you now have to be grandfathered in to paying the new 40% of your benefits/25k max, if you are just starting out, when you FINALLY qualify you have to pay 80%!!!

Is Hilary/Obama/McCain/whoever really going to address this crisis amongst youngsters when we finally get a new president??? So many people 30 and under go without benefits, it's crazy.

ive never had a problem with finding a job with benefits and im only 25. I worked part time at age 20 with medical/dental/401k, etc. I hardly see it as a crisis.

and I dont have a single friend who had a problem finding a job with benefits either

WOW!!! Just WOW.

And what makes it more disgusting is what these CEO's leave with... their "golden parachutes". If they divided those amounts amongst the thousands of employees everyone could have fully funded benefits.

And the way they planned on telling everyoneChat Icon Chat Icon COWARDS!!! They know they are so wrongChat Icon

Rumors are swirling around here about Christmas Eve too... whether Bush will give it to us, if he does, whether or not you'll get the leave if you already said you were taking off, etc.

just b/c something is not going on in your circle of knowlege doesn't mean it's not rapant someplace else.

do many people in your circle have AIDS or other STD's? are they starving? do they live below the poverty level?

it's the same thing.

I work for the FED, and I pay a LARGE portion of my health ins.

and forget trying to get health ins. if you are a free or perma lancer.

we are in need of a change.

big time.

this is my one benefit.

I am so specialized in my office (the only one of it's kind Chat Icon Chat Icon ) that I don't have to give in my leave info until the day of if need be.

I HATE that they do that. it's ridiculous.

I can't be wasting days. I need them for my non existant maternity leave.Chat Icon

i heard that they could tell us the Friday before, that would be pretty messed up but almost expected.

I am going to come in and maybe use just two hours to get out early, i am saving up for my wedding so i dont want to use too much of my time

but i really wish they would just tell us already so people can make plans!!!

i see your point - i was just trying to say that it is my experience, and my friends work in different industries, some college educated, some not, and we all have decent health insurance.

sadly it's almost always left up to the office and the district.

I can't tell you how many days of the year the COURTS are CLOSED, yet we are still required to come to work.

whatever. it's "prestigious"

agreed. I am educated and very well paid for what I do. But if I wasn't on my DH's health insurance, I would be paying 1000+ a month for insurance. I could take a much lower paying job outside of my skill for benefits, but that is just not smart and ultimately not a good life choice.
MANY businesses have and are taking advantage and negotiating lower health care and less pension benefits.

FYI, not all people are as lucky as you. I don't have medical or dental insurance or any kind of retirement plan through my employer. In my industry that sort of thing is not the norm. I think I am eligible for a measly health plan right now, but I change employers often and it's not reliable for that reason. So my DH and I (he doesn't have any of those benefits, either) pay out of pocket for all health insurance and we have to do all of our retirement planning and funding on our own. I'm not complaining, because, thankfully, we make enough that doing all of that on our own is not an issue, but it is for so many people who make so much less and it really is a shame.
