aminio with twins

I really need to know I am a so nervous I got my resuts from my ultra screen.. So Baby A got good results and Baby B did not get that good of one.. but they told me not to get nervous cause these test can be like this does not mean that something may be wrong .. So now I will go in and speak to my docter to see if I should get an aminio done since I am 39.. but I am worried about something going wrong If I take the test.. What did you moms with mutiples do? Did you risk taking the test or did you just leave it in Gods hands... The nurse says the risk is much higher with twins of miscarriage with the test... I need some advice......

I refused the amnio. I actually got an attitude from the sono tech Dr. But, I left it in God's hands.

Re: aminio with twins

this is a major and personal decision. it's unfortunate that there are no guarantees either way, but you really have to think about what kind of person you are. for some, knowing beforehand helps them choose whether to continue with the pregnancy. for others, knowing beforehand helps them to be as prepared as possible for the birth of a baby with downs and for others not knowing at all is better and what will be will be and still for others this option is so stressful throughout their whole pregnancy that they do if for peace of mind. you really have to sit down and talk about all the possible outcomes with dh.

i didn't have an amnio, but i did have an abdominal cvs test (not for downs). it's similar to amnio, they stick giant needles through belly but get samples of placentas instead of fluid. i thought they were going to do it vaginally, but when i got there, they decided it had to be through the stomach because where the placentas were placed. it was something i was terrified to get and although thankfully everything was ok, sometimes i wish i hadn't gotten it, because i was so freaked out.

i wish you the best. and peace in whatever decision you make. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

The only time an amnio was discussed was while I was in labor - doctor wanted to make sure babies' lungs were developed (Chat Icon what difference did it make then?). Anyway, there was no way I would let them touch me. They were born and their lungs were fine.

But as the PP said, it is a personal decision I think only you and your DH can make. Good luck and Chat Icon to you and your babies! Chat Icon

I didn't have one done. My dr. said with twins it's not like you could really do anything about it (abort). It took us a long time to get pregnant so I just felt what we are to be given is what is meant to be and would have decided against it even if I was having only one baby.
I did take the blood test and via tons of sono's no markers ever were present. So I feel confident all will be okay.
It's a personal choice, but I couldn't imagine losing the babies over something I didn't have to do.

Same here.

Several family members have had false positives with several tests and then have everything turn out fine. I didn't want the stress or the added risk, despite being told, due to age I had a higher risk.

I did not have an amnio but my blood work came back normal on the ultrasceen but one's neck was aon the thicker side.

I am glad that we had further testing done, including sonograms and seeing a cardiologist since one of my bys had a heart issue. I am glad that I knew about that before hand since we had a cardioloigst there when he was born and was in there care immediately. If it would have been found out after birth he would have been transferred out to a different hospital and far from me.

Is there anyother testing that can be done before doing the amnio? I think knowing the complete picture before birth is always very important so you can all be in the right place together when giving birth and after.

Good Luck!!!!!
