teachers, please be careful of what you write on here!!!
***and no, absolutely nothing has personally happened to me to make me write this...it's just a general observation that i had to get off my chest.***
PLEASE, please, please be careful of how much information you give out about your job, district, students, where you live etc. there are hundreds of parents on LIF and chances are good that many are in your district and possibly school. you never know who is reading the boards, especially lurkers. you shouldn't make public that (and these are just examples!!) you throw out kids' work, give busy workthat is meaningless, have problem students, etc because the parent of one of your students may be reading it.
you would be amazed how many parents google you, check your facebook/myspace/etc and can find you here. and if they have things in writing that you said and bring it to your principal, your job could be in jeopardy--even if it was innocent to you.
i'm not trying to start drama, but there are many threads that i read on here that just give too much information IMHO. i cringe when i read them and see a name and face attached to them. parents/coworkers who find you can even find out if you're TTC, pregnant, etc before you want anyone to know. and most parents would do nothing with that information, but you know that there are always some who cause trouble.
so please be careful of what you write--especially if it pertains to specifics of a student, school or district or ANYTHING personal about yourself.
i hate that i can't post pictures or "identify" myself on here, but i KNOW that there are several parents, aunts, etc that i have found on here of my students. i like to keep my professional and personal lives separate.
i don't want to see anyone get hurt.

You make such good points. It's hard to believe that we have to protect ourselves so much, but you're right, we do. Thanks for reminding us!

i thought the same when i joined the board. i once was fired from a crappy (non-teaching) job over myspace. ive learned to be somewhat discreet...
its such a shame really that something so innocent can totally backfire on you

It's true--and really sad. I do have a myspace, but it's completely private, and under an assumed name.
As for what I post on here, I'm at a bit of an advantage since I live 700 miles away in NC, and no one would think to look for me here.

great point. Ive been thinking about changing my screen name to a discreet screen name for myself.
esp because i'll be working f/t soon. and just for the privacy issue. for this reason and every other reason we've mention here on lif.
