We started too but we'd need a 2BR and between maintenance fees and the garage it's crazy Chat Icon we just rented again until next summer when we probably make the move to the burbs...

We looked at some condos in Queens. Are you definitely looking to move to Manhattan?

Are you interested in condos only or would you consider a co-op?

We looked a bit before buying on LI - I wanted to be in Manhattan though, and we just could not afford a 'normal' sized place -

Good Luck !!!

DH and I would like to buy a condo in Brooklyn. They're popping up like crazy, so we'll have a lot to look at, though the prices will probably be Chat Icon Chat Icon . We definitely need 2 bedrooms.

condos are way more appealing to me right now b/c of the tax abatements being offered.

and co-op common charges/maintainence is OUT OF CONTROL in most spots.

Snickers...with all these buildings going up and demand going down, I am hoping to get something nice for the right price.

Good luck to you too.

You HAVE to be insane to do that...I meant to look in NYCChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

ETA: You're better off going to look in LIC or Greenpoint, Brooklyn area...at least you have an awesome view for a little bit less...

Yes we are - after living here for 9 years we decided to take the plunge and buy.

It was hard to find something affordable that was still (relatively) close to our jobs. We just went to contract on a fixer-upper that has great bones, but has not been renovated since the 50s. We had to sacrifice a little bit on area as we're going to pretty far up, but we wanted more space.

And we don't have a view of anything but side streets :)

I agree with the tax abatements...it's a huge incentive...

We owned a condo and sold it to move to NJ. A condo is better than a co-op, but it's still crazy expensive...the maintenance fees and the other misc. crap that seems to pop up every month....it's hard to keep up!

I want to go look at the new ones they built in Rockaway beach

20 year tax abatement and low maintance

and ocean front

it sounds too good to be true

so I have a feeling I will be in westchester in the next 18 months

those Rockaway apts are GORGEOUS (at least in picture) but too far away from everything for me....Westchester is closer to where I live now than Rockaway is Chat Icon
