Re: I seriously think that I have

What worked for me was to stop thinking "I'll stat tomorrow" or "I'll start next week" - If I ate like crap one day, I'd just continue for the full day w/ the "I already screwed it up mentality" and would end up eating 4x as bad for the day/week ...........

I had to seriously change my attitude and way of thinking about what I was putting in my mouth .........Exercising really helps b/c I don't ENJOY doing it - I like the results I get, and I FEEL better afterwards, but I'm not one of those people who ENJOYS working out - so I now think of it as "If I pop thosee 3 cookies in my mouth, I basically just negated my workout" .

I am with you on this. I totally understand. The entire year of '07 I was out of control, resulting in a good amount of weight gain. I had to go buy new clothes, I felt like crap it was horrible. Finally, 1/2/08 I decided I have had enough. I am down 9 lbs so far and I am more conscience of everything I eat. It is hard. I am going out of my mind some days but I was just so disgusted with myself. I am turning 30, want to TTC this I needed to get in control.
Good luck! FM me anytime for support.

I have learned that I can't just have one to satisfy a craving.
1 cookie = 10 cookies = no cookies for me Chat Icon

I often feel the same way Marcie. I guess I actually know I have an eating/binge disorder it is just more under control than it used to be but I have not lost the weight I need to lose so clearly I still eat too many calories and don't exercise enough.
I suggest reading the book Intuitive Eating. That helped me a lot. I'm not cure, don't know if I ever will be and I do still go to WW but I'm trying to take a different approach to "dieting". Chat Icon
I'm also a very emotional eater. When life ***** my eating generally *****. Chat Icon

I'm with you on this one. I have major eatting problems as well. I find when I try to focus on being healty rather than depriving myself it helps. Some foods make you hungrier as well. If i have a bagel in the morning- I'm hungry very soon after because my blood sugar drops. If I eat eggs on a whole wheat english muffin I'm ok. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I'm the same way. No control at all. Winter is no help because I feel as if I am home too much. I'm also an emotional eater, and I tend to eat too much when I am stressed. And it's not even good stuff, I crave the fats and grease and can't stop.

Re: I seriously think that I have

It's good that you are acknowledging that you've lost control of the situation and want to do something about it. That's the first and very important step. It's important for you to figure out WHY you're overeating - what purpose food serves for you besides hunger. Many times people overeat due to stress, boredom, sadness, etc. It may help for you to speak to a professional therapist and/or nutritionist about this, preferably someone who specializes in eating issues.

It may help to journal what you are eating and when. Also note your mood right before you decide to eat. That can help you gain some insight into the situation and may give you a better indication or what your triggers are.

A very close family member of mine suffers from an eating disorder - overeating but then there are times that she binges and purges, which is more along the lines of bulimia. We have urged her to seek help in the past, and she has, but it is short-lived. In her case, she also suffers from diabetes, which is related to her weight gain. Unfortunately, in the past, she would take her diabetes meds and wash them down with a can of regular soda. Needless to say, we are always very worried about her. She is also an emotional eater and has an addictive personality.

I'm not saying you have any of these things, but I think it's important to the root of your concerns.

I have always battled with a negative body image and food, even when I was super skinny, and it's tough to overcome, but possible. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: I seriously think that I have

I've been the same way these past few months. I think my biggest problem was that I felt entitled to comfort myself & did. I comforted myself into 5 lbs more.

That was the final straw for me. I've just started to take control again these past 2 weeks & it's made a world of difference.

I think comforting myself into feeling better about my body & myself is far more helpful to my psyche.

Try binging on healthy items & don't bring anything with a lot of points (if you're doing WWers) in your house.

Get back on that wagon. You can do this!Chat Icon

Re: I seriously think that I have

The only thing that worked for me is WW. And, there are still some days where I feel like all I do is eat!
