Dublin
DH and I are going to Dublin for 4 nights in February. I've got a bunch of books and about a thousand places on my must see list. Can anyone help me narrow it down. What can not be missed?

Don't miss Trinity University where the Book of Kells is kept.
Also, the Post Office with all the pillars and the bullets shots still engrained in the stone
And the markets for shopping!

My old company took us all to Dublin for a long weekend a few years ago and it was really good fun. You can do one of the open top, hop on hop off bus tours and get a great idea of what there is to do in the city. I know that we did the Guinness Brewery Tour, we did some kind of history of Dublin thing, we went out in Temple Bar in the eveing, and we just walked around the city in general. I think you can just have a good wander and see lots of stuff!!!

Actually 4 nights is MORE than enough time in my opinion. It's a small city and you can see the major things in a day.
You must do:
Grafton Street (great shops... it's like Dublin's 5th Avenue)
Temple Bar (great night life, lots of
pubs, restaurants and discos)
Trinity College: Book of Kells
I also love the GPO (General Post Office)... very important in Irish history. Many of the patriots fighting for independence in 1916 were killed there. The bullet holes and such are still there. It is still a functioning post office so it's not an all-day thing or anything.
Guinness Brewery tour is fun, but not the end of the world if you don't do it.
St. Stephen's Green: equivalent to our Central Park
If you have time, go to the Wicklow Mountains (outside Dublin) and to Johnny Fo'x pub.... any cabbie or person in a hotel coud direct you there. It's an awesome pub... the highest one in Ireland! (in the mountains, just outside Dublin)

I'm from Dublin and lived very close to Foxes. It's actually in the Dublin Mountains, but everything else donegal said is true. It's kind of touristy, but my American born husband loves it and the food is excellent! There are a couple of good pitch & putt courses right by there, which is nice if you want to do an activity.
If you get a nice day I would recommend taking the DART (Dublin Area Rapid Transport - train) and visiting Howth (north) and Dun Laoghaire, Killiney and Dalkey (South). Dalkey is known as Dalkeywood over there because a lot of actors and other famous people live in the area, but the town is beautiful and the pubs are great. Go to the Sorrento Lounge (it says Finnegan's above the door) for a nice old-fashioned pub.
I agree that the Guinness brewery is not a must-see. They changed it a few years ago and not for the better. Irish Distillers is a good tour, though. It's on the other side of the Liffey from Guinnesses and I like that better.
Grafton Street is pretty for window shopping, but if you want better deals, go to Henry Street and Mary Street, also on the other side of the Liffey, right by the GPO.
Other sights to see are St. Patrick's Cathedral, Christ Church Cathedral and Dublinia, which are all in the same area of Christchurch. Dublinia is the Viking and Medieval heritiage center and that's interesting.

Thanks again. We definitely wanted to take a trip out of the city itself one day so I think 4 days is going to be perfect. I'm printing this all out and getting to work!!
