If you have IBS... WAY TMI...
I was never officially diagnosed... a few years ago my doctor said I have all the symptoms for IBS, and its just something I know I have based on my experiences and other people who have it...
At what point did you actually seek treatment for it?
Mine comes and goes - but its always "there."
Lately, it has been awful... I ALWAYS have to go to the bathroom - and sometimes its so bad, I am afraid I'm going to have an accident (usually when I'm driving and can't get to a restroom)
I really feel I'm able to control it with diet, but I can't give up my coffee, which I know doesn't help things, and now its almost everytime I have white bread (the only time I eat white bread is when I eat a bagel) - I get horribly bloated, and my stomach KILLS me. Last night I had chinese food...
I know these are all bad things to eat, and I don't normally eat them, but I feel like lately, no matter what I eat this is happening.... I find especially when I'm going through a lot of stress....
should I just let it blow over (so to speak ) and do the best I can with not eating crap, or actually see someone for it?
Can IBS turn into something worse - like Crohn's disease - if not treated, or is that a completely different thing?
TIA

Re: If you have IBS... WAY TMI...
I have Crohns with IBS and it really blows!
I will say this, get a colonoscopy. It will tell the whole picture. It's not pleasant but not the worst thing. It's an excellent diagnostic tool.
IBS won't turn into Crohns necessarily but many people who have Crohns also have IBS like me.
I have many of the symptoms you describe. I've had it a long time and have been on several meds. If it is Crohns there are some medications out there that can help.
Diet helps me sometimes, but not always.
Please FM if you want to "talk" more.

I SOOOO don't want to do a colonoscopy Thats why I have been avoiding things for so long - but I have been so uncomfortable for so long... I think it may be time soon....

Re: If you have IBS... WAY TMI...
I know, I fought it for decades..literally. Finally caved and although it s u c k e d it was worth finding out for sure what was going on.
Let me know if you need a fabulous, caring gentle gastro doc. My doc has a full endoscopy suite on premises and does the procedure right there.
Half of my pain is the anxiety of not knowing what the heck is wrong..it makes the symptoms worse..

Re: If you have IBS... WAY TMI...
ive been dealing with IBS for about 10 years.. past 3-4 really badly.. i finally went to my doctor (just general one) and got bentyl... ill never give up my coffee/soda addiction for anything (ok well when i get my bfp i will) so it was really a matter of managing it.. the bentyl worked wonders for me .. i was petrfiied of the tests that a gastro doc would do too so thats why i just dealt with it for so long i now can eat spicy stuff and not be effected just gotta pop my pill ... it took 2 weeks to get used to for me.. then i realized wow this is great i dont know how i lived with it for so long untreated... i still carry some mental stuff with it but its going away as weeks pass without an episode (b/c im always afraid to go somewhere new i dont know where the bathrooms are etc) fm if u need any more info or want to chat about it.. i say give bentyl a try and work from there... its prolly not for everyone but its the miracle cure for me
