Taxes - 1098 question
If your mortgage is in both yours and you partner's names, are both of your names on the 1098 statement?
Our mortgage is in both of our names, but only my name and SSN appears on the 1098. Is this a mistake? We are not married and need to file separately so doesn't his name need to appear on the document?
TIA!

Re: Taxes - 1098 question
are you the primary on the mortgage? I would call up the mort. company and have them revise that.

Re: Taxes - 1098 question
Our 1098 has both our names and SS#s on it. I'd call the lender and ask!

Re: Taxes - 1098 question
It sounds right that the bank would do that...they don't know that you're splitting the mortgage and therefore are not going to send out two 1098's for 1/2 of the mortgage each...when you file your taxes, just make sure that you each claim only 1/2 of the total interest and taxes (if included). As long as you have some backup that you're both on the mortgage, then in the event of an IRS audit, you have your proof.
