evacuation plan
do you have one?
i use to live in a ground level apt and if i had to, i could run out with both babies in my arms, because there was a front, side, and back door. recently i moved to a 2nd floor apt and i was thinking about how i would get out if i couldn't go out the main stairs. even with one of those rope ladders from a window, if i'm home alone, i would never be able to hold 2 babies and climb out a window and down a ladder.
any suggestions? i know no one likes to think about bad things happening, but i think it's important.

Re: evacuation plan
I think about it all the time. I always have a phone any time I leave them to go to a different room.
As for being on the second floor with the two of them, I think that in a true emergency you could hold both babies in one arm and hold onto the ladder with the other - I really think you could do it. When they are older toddlers, not really sure. Does One Step Ahead or any of those sell anything to make it easier in that scenario?

Re: evacuation plan
Funny you should write this because I've been thinking about it more and more now that DSs are older. I was planning on getting an escape ladder (they have a pretty inexpensive one on Amazon) but as for determining just how to get them out, I think you just grab and go. At this stage, they'll cling to me like koala bears which is helpful
I recently made sure I reviewed the panic code for the alarm and tested the fire alarms in conjunction w/ the house alarm, too. It must be the winter months that make you think of all the "what ifs."

Re: evacuation plan
I dont have one yet, but we do have one of those escape ladders. I've been obsessing over the fire alarm batteries all week.

Re: evacuation plan
I was just talking about this with a co-worker, and was thinking about getting those escape ladders that fold up. I think One Step Ahead sells them.

Re: evacuation plan
heres a idea--=you can get a sling or a backpack carrier and store it with the ladder-put a child on your back if there was a emergency-you can also tie a child onto with a sheet. I have a throw down ladder, I also need another one for my older kids being they moved up one flight--thank you for reminding me. I pray none of us ever need it.
edited to add...this got me thinking..I remember having to grab both and run to the basement because we had a tornado warning where Ii live--that was hard enough. I also watched a show last night about survival in a hurricane. I am getting a box together like they suggested with all I need in case.
