Disney with an Infant...

Anyone ever go to Disney with an infant? Say, 3-4 mths old?

Is it do-able or are we crazy for thinking about it?

TIA

Re: Disney with an Infant...

My friend, her DH and their 3 month old son are coming down to Disney (from NY) this weekend and staying for a week.

We're meeting them there for 2 days over the weekend... I can let you know how it is when I get back.

Re: Disney with an Infant...

I've seen people do it and I always think "Why?"

A lot of the sounds and lights are frightening to infants, and the heat can really be too much. Obviously you know MUCH more about caring for your child than I do, but I think it would probably be very difficult. you would also need someone to stay back with the baby for most attractions since they don't allow strollers and they don't allow you to hold the baby on most rides (with good reason!).

It also depends on the time of year. if it's cool and low crowds, it might be more bearable, and also whether or not you really want to do every attraction, or if you just want to go, hang out and take in some shows and don't mind being very limited and often experiencing things separate from your DH on babyswap.

it's totally doable. A website like disboards.com probably has forum that discusses travelling with infants.

I am pretty sure babies are allowed on any ride without a height restriction. There's a baby swap option for rides with a height requriement. That's where the family waits on line but one person waits to the side with the baby and the other goes on the ride and then they switch off. So you end riding by yourself but you can still wait in line together.

You could bring your own stroller or rent one at the parks. As a spectator it seemed easier to rent one then juggle the stroller and baby on the buses.

We brought our dd to Disney when she was 5 months old and it was a great time. She spent a lot of time int he bjorn. She was excellent in her stroller in most restaurnts. We rented a crib and exersaucer and ordered diapers and formula to be delivered to the hotel. We worked around her home schedule and did everything so much more liesurely. We had such a wonderful time. I am sure that this summer when she is 18 months it will be much more difficult.

Re: Disney with an Infant...

I've done it!!! i brought my son down there when he was 3 months old.. my oldest was 3 and a half at the time and we were really going for him.. we went down in July .. it was hot but not umbearable.. we had him in a stroller with an umbrella on him all the time. i was breastfeeding so i didn't have to worry about keeping formula cold or anything but i'm sure that can be worked out.. i would say if you are going down for the baby obviously he is too young.. if you are going down with family then go for it. If its just you and Brian than i would wait.. you won't be able to do anything.. be prepared going to disney with kids is NOTHING like going just with you and DH!! Chat Icon with a baby you will need to take frequent breaks in the shade! And the flight down can go either way!

Re: Disney with an Infant...

We went to Animal Kingdom last weekend and met our friends and their 2 1/2 month old baby. We spent most of the day there from about 8am - 3pm with them and the baby, then went back to the hotel for 2 hours, then went out to eat and then to the boardwalk till about 11pm.

The baby did great! He slept most of the day and woke up mostly only to be fed... he's a good baby. We only stayed the weekend, but they are there for 10 days with him.

We went on all the rides twice b/c of the baby swap... my friend's DH would wait for us to go on and then we all went on again with her DH and my friend waited. With the baby swap you go through fast pass and are allowed to bring 3-4 people with you.

It was much easier than I thought it would be. Have fun!
