Spinoff to agreeing on names...once you find a name you like...

Once you find a name you and DH both agree on, do you tell other people?

DH and I told friends of ours at dinner one night. They went and told their sister...who gave birth to a little girl a few months later...and she used our exact name (first and middle) and spelling.

That would be why we are not planning on telling anyone - if we ever figure out a name.
We have a name for a boy - but we are at a loss for girl names

We made that mistake with my son. As soon as we told people, they immediately felt like they needed to give us other alternatives. As if we asked!!!
With this one, we won't tell anyone the name since we want to avoid what happened to us with the first one. As of now, we can't agree on a name

We told family at Thanksgiving what our girl name was, and the few boy's names we are kicking around. Well...that led up to a hour long discussion on what everyone thinks we should name our child. It was comical, my DH kept kicking me under that table when they said a name we both hated. We are not telling until we decide on a name and even then, I don't know if I want everyone to know.

We told everyone, but nobody is preggo except for my cousin who was having a boy.. My friends have nic names for my lil princess it is realy cute...

I think people are interested in hearing about your pregnancy, and one of the ways they feel they can ask and include themselves is to discuss names. They certainly don't want to hear about all of our aches and pains!! We told my family at Thanksgiving the names we were thinking about, just because they asked. We didn't however tell them the name that we really love for a girl which is my mom's maiden name (she passed away 5 years ago), because I didn't want to get into them telling me it was silly or trying to give me other suggestions, or talk me out of it.

We settled on names while we were TTC, but we didn't tell anyone till the level II sono when we found out it's a None of our friends or their wives are pg right now, so we pretty much have "dibs" on the name

I learned pretty early on that sharing name ideas with our families wasn't such a good idea. Everyone has a comment.
So even though we've pretty much finalized, we're not sharing until after the baby is born.
Now when they ask, we just say we're still undecided.

we haven't decided on anything yet, but I'm afraid to tell the family caus ethey're the type to definitely comment...

Dh and I totally tell people FAKE names when they ask!! These names are not on our list at all

Dh tells people if it's a boy the name will be oscar, or charles

for a girl he just makes up things, or quotes seinfeld, seven or soda.

My family and friends look at me and i just smile at my husband

I only told a certain few but I'm the only one preggo with a girl so we are pretty safe. I did make the mistake of sharing my favorite boy name with a family friend and she named her son that a few months later. Name stealer!! LOL

Sometimes we tell our parents and a couple of people and others we don't say anything. Sometimes people have nasty comments to say about certain names you like and I don't think that is very nice.

We told everyone since we are the only ones we know having a baby, except my one friend who already picked a name. By the way.. I HATE name stealers!!!

I think I had to get over the name stealing once we named our son Joseph - too many people had dad's named Joseph. I did however put my foot down when my twin tried to name her son after mine.

We shared our girl's names (we hadn't decided on boys at that point). I said "It's either Madeline or Charlotte" She blurted out "Charlotte? That's a horrible name!" I jst said "You better get used to it since it may be your granddaughter's"

In the end, my husband made the final decision but it had nothing to do with his mom's opinion.
