Hi I'm new and need some help with a concern I have about my DC...
Hi i'm new to these boards. Some friends of mine have told me about this site and how helpful you ladies are...
Here is my situation. For the past month my DS hasn't been sleeping so well. He tosses and turns a lot in his sleep during the night. He's always done it but now he does it constant and it's non stop. It's like he can't settle back down into a deep sleep.
Now he's waking up with little bags under his eyes that then turn into little dark circles as the day progresses. I spoke to the doctor 2 weeks ago and he said he is not concerned because it's probably teething, He said it looks like his 2nd molars may be getting ready to come in. But is it teething? It hasn't gotten any better since I spoke to the doctor 2 weeks ago. I have tried everything: putting him to bed early, giving him relaxing baths, giving him tylenol (for the teething pain). He's not crying out or anything so i'm not so sure it's teething. Or maybe it is and him constantly tossing and turning is due to him being uncomfortable from the pain. During the day his hands are always always in his mouth. He's always biting me and my husband.
Is my DC the only who has experienced this? with the baggy and dark eyes? He does act like himself during the day. He's not walking around looking drowsy and sleepy as if he'll drop anywhere and fall asleep. His naps are fine. He'll take a 2 hour nap with no problems.
I was just looking for some insight from you ladies...Thanks!

I am going through something similar with my DS. How old is your DS?
You have FM by the way...

He will be 20 months old tomorrow. My guess is the teething but is it normal for it to go on for a month?

It can be teething. They can take a really long time to come in and molars are particularly painful, as there is a lot more tooth cutting through the gum.

What's so strange is that we didn't have this problem when the first molars came in. A few nights of waking up but that's it. That's how it's been when all of his other teeth came. Nothing ever major except for a few nights of waking up and that's it. But now this has been going on for a month. I'm starting to think that maybe he's going back to being the horrible sleeper he was when he was a newborn...
Are the 2nd molars tougher than the first ones?

I agree. Maybe try motrin instead of Tylenol? Tylenol never worked that well for us when it comes to teething pain.
I also give Hylands teething tablets too.
GOod luck, hope your DC feels better soon

I tried both and no such luck. That's why part of me thinks that it may not be all teething related...I'll give it one more week and then speak to the doctor again...I don't know what else to do for him.
The only upside is that he acts normal and is not cranky during the day...

Our pediatrician said they can be. They are pretty used to the pain of teething when the first set comes in. But they've not been going through it for a while and then all of a sudden they have this new set come in, and they are so big it's pretty painful.
Obviously you know your child better than anyone, so if you think it's something more you should continue to talk to the doctor.

Should I really be concerned about this? Does it sound serious?

I know there are people who will disagree with me, but I wouldn't be too bent out of shape over it. It sounds to me like normal 2nd year molar stuff.
Tooth pain is worse at night so it is normal for them to not sleep as well until the teeth are through.

I agree with Cathy again :)
My DD is getting her 2 year molars and it's def affecting her nighttime sleep. She tosses and cries out in the middle of the night. Thank goodness she doesn't wake herself up that often.
She 100% fine during the day. Teething pain is always worse at night.
I personally wouldn't be concerned about it until she is getting lethargic and not herself during the day cause of the nightime tossing.

DH isn't concerned one bit because DS is acting fine and all.
He does eat during the day and all. No fussiness there...
I will give it another week and then talk to the doctor about it again. If he says not to be concerned then I'll take it from there.

We experienced something similar. Turned out DD was too warm at night and would become restless and wake up. It was the combination of fleece pajamas, a blanket and the room being too warm. Once we lowered her room temp, she began sleeping through the night again.

I tried that too and no help. It makes me crazy when nothing I do seems to help...

If I took him to the doctor could they do tests on him to see if he does have allergies?

Yes, they can test babies and toddlers for allergies. My son was tested around 10 months. He had severe eczema, bloody stools, severe constipation, and a few other minor symptoms.
My pediatrician would not have sent us over hands in the mouth and biting during the day and restless sleeping at night. I was asking for him to be tested for about 5 months before they finally sent us b/c we'd exhausted all the other possibilities. We had to have a few vials of blood drawn first, and then once those came back indicating a severe allergy we had to see an allergist to perform a scratch test.

Definitely! I think it's been long enough for things to not have gotten better. It sounds like you are really concerned so I'd call and see if something else is up, other than teething.

Are our boys twins? DS has been going through something similar. And it's been weeks. My DH said unless he acts differently throughout the day then he doesn't seem like there is a cause for alarm...

Re: Hi I'm new and need some help with a concern I have about my DC...
My DS has been going through this for the past month also. He is 21 months. I have tried everything and am kind of at my witts end. He has always been a GOOD sleeper but now he is so RESTLESS. He goes down at 8:30pm wakes at 10:00pm goes back down till 12:00am gets up again at 3:00am asking for milk and stays up till 4:30 - 5:00 just tossing and turning.
I feel so horrible because he wakes again at 7:30 and he has HUGE bags under his eyes.
