Has anyone been to the bar-b-q places Spankys' or Virgils in NYC??
my DH loves bar-b-q. i was thinking of taking him to either one of these places. has anyone ever been there?

I haven't been to Spanks but I have been to Virgils. It's ok, but very commercial. Still a cool experience.

I've been to Virgils a few times....not super impressed, but it was good. Can't say I'd go back, but DH really likes it.

I have been to Virgil's a few times and i really enjoyed it. I am a huge Outback fan so Virgil's is my type of place!

DH and I went to Spanky's about 2 months ago. We are big BBQ fans. The food was pretty good. Not the best but certainly not the worst. It's very casual. Our waiter was horrible. But I think that was because he got a large party just after we sat and they demanded a lot of his attention.

Virgils is awesome! Its part of a big sort of bunch of restuaurants founded by the same person, who was a good friend of my mothers from high school and I think the food is amazing, the same people who own (OMG going blank now) the italian place..CARMINES, and some other places (my sister would know more) and the food is great. I think the location of it makes it touristy,but its good.
Also, down by Irving plaza there is another good BBQ place called Dukes I think...next to City Crab. Delish!

I've been to Virgil's and agree with the other posters. It's okay, I wouldn't make a special trip to go there.

ive been to virgils like three times i loved it my first time the second two times were okay.we love the hush puppies with the maple syrup butter!!!!! never been to spankys so i cant comment on that.
for my batchelorette party we went to dinosaur bbq in harlem it was awsome.
