Wellness Challenge... Come on in
I love being on vacation, because I get to think and assess where I am.
I don't need to diet, or exercise more, etc but I do need to prioritize myself better and make some health choices for myself.
And I remembered years ago, I joined a wellness program in a school I was working at.
You commit to some change - a small change - so instead of just saying - "I want to lose 10 pounds" You may say, "I will cut refined white sugar out of my diet."
You make a specific, easily observable plan instead of an amorphous "I want to look like Heidi Klum by June 1st "
But, becase its wellness and not a diet plan per se, I want to target Body, Mind, Soul, and Professional/Parenting/Personal goals as well.
Heres how it will work.
state your goals for the month of March only. Something small and totally do-able. If you want to lose weight, don't say that - say "I will eat... or NOT eat..."
Get it?
If not - here are my goals for March. Please state them this way, and we will check in and support each other each month and give the status of each goal we set out for ourselves....
BODY:
I will cut out white sugar and white flour, except for one bagel on sunday mornings
I will do 25 crunches every night, 25 push ups, 25 tricep dips
I will add one extra night of weight training
MIND:
I will read one journal article a week in my profession, and read a few pages a night of a NON-Fiction book
SOUL:
will read a few pages of a Buddhism book a WEEK, and stop to meditate for 3 minutes 1 night a week (this is very difficult for me to do)
PROFESSIONAL:
I will not respond to a negative comment one time a week, even if I know the person is wrong
PARENTING
I will read a book every night to Cailen, and keep the TV off for one whole night every week
These are my goals for March. I may continue with the in April and add to them, depending on my progress this March.
Share away!

Re: Wellness Challenge... Come on in
I think that this is a great idea. I'm totally in! While I would really like to loose this PG weight, I feel like I really need to start getting myself in balance.
I need to think about this a little bit. But for a start--
BODY: I work at getting back into doing Yoga --I will do the abs yoga 3 nights a week (to work on my PP and c/s belly) --I will do an alternate yoga at least 2 nights to help regain my flexibility and strength- which I lost during PG and the PP period
I will work at planning menues for the weeks so I'm not just grabbing "what ever" (This addresses my original statement of--Need to come up with something doable to improve my diet.)
MIND: I will read the book on eating well that I have been carrying around (and not reading)
SOUL: Same as above, Yoga at least 3 nights a week.
PROFESSIONAL: I will fine tune my resume, and continue my job search.
PARENTING: I need to work on reading to Daniel every day also.
As I said, I'm going to think about this a little more and then add to it.
OK, I updated this after thinking about it some more.

Re: Wellness Challenge... Come on in
Awesome idea
:BODY:
I will start running 3 days a week. I joined Weight Watchers two weeks ago
:MIND: I was such a bookworm, but since having DD, I have stopped. Last week I went to the library and took out a bunch of books. I will continue to read a book every 2 weeks.
SOUL: I will try to read books that will raise my awareness. I will also try to meditate.
PROFESSIONAL: I will focus more on work, less on LIW and be more on top of my cases. In April or May, I will explore new job options.
PARENTING: I will start to explain things to Jordana when I say no. I will discipline her and follow through with any punishments that I threaten.

I think that I may have to "steal" your idea with the refined sugar or something along that line. I just need to figure out how to make it work in my life and translate it into a specific change. My FIL gave up sugar/desserts and really lost a lot of weight.
I cut soda out of my life a couple of years ago and now mostly drink water. (I used to drink soda as though it was water.)

Re: Wellness Challenge... Come on in
BODY I'm going to cut white flour out of my diet completely at least once a week.
I will start looking into and experimenting with alternatives for refined sugars in baking.
MIND I will watch less TV and read 3-4 books this month.
PROFESSIONAL I will dedicate myself fully to my job (when I have work to do) instead of counting the days til I blow this pop stand.

Re: Wellness Challenge... Come on in
Great idea....
BODY: Make sure that I get to the gym for a full work out at least 4 times a week. For days not at the gym, work out for at least 30 mins plus standard sit-up and push-up routine.
Experiment more with recipes to expand repertoire.
MIND: Meditate for at least 5 mins every day.
SOUL: Same as above. Also, try to find some other hobbies that excite me. Maybe sign up for some sort of class once my work schedule gets back to normal.
PROFESSIONAL: Formalize freelance work opportunities. Establish a regular work routine again.
Figure out Google Ad Words to ear more $$, and also get more exposure for my business web site (resume writing service).
PARENTING: Work on becoming one!!
