Re: Househunting is depressing...

I think that is the general feeling these days. We've seen 85 houses......this doesn't include the dozen or so "drive by's" - houses we were going to look at but just kept on driving by Chat Icon

I feel so discouraged at times...and at other times am grateful for our situation - we pay such low rent so we're able to save a ton of money and we are not under pressure to move.

But I am so frustrated at REA's who creat such frenzies over houses - this one's not going to last! hurry!!...and frustrated at the buyer's who are buying into this frenzy. Chat Icon Sorry, but $450k+ should not be such a "difficult price range" to buy a decent (somewhat updated, no busy roads or powerlines or water towers) home in a decent area. Chat Icon

450+ imo isn't hard to find at all.

where are you looking?

Re: Househunting is depressing...

haha - I've found $450k+ houses......but I wouldn't pay that much for them.

We've been focusing on Huntington/East Northport/Kings Park/Greenlawn/Centerport.

In addition, we've looked in Hauppauge, St James, Smithtown, Nesconset, Northport, Setauket, East Setauket.

Maybe I'm being niave - but I refuse to pay $450k for a house that was purchased 5 years ago for $285k - where no updates have been made since 1962 or there are LIPA tension power lines running through the .5 acre or there is a water tower visible from the back or front yard.......or the house is backing - or fronting or siding - a major road.

It just pisses me off that a "starter home" is going for $450k+ in decent areas. Chat Icon

We're done w/looking at open houses now, which started out fun but grew quickly depressing, and are in the process of making appts w/realtors. I still holding out hope that there is a house out there for me! Chat Icon

Re: Househunting is depressing...

I got very frustrated after we started looking... but we didnt give up and found a GREAT deal!! The SD wasnt my top choice, but it is still a decent one...www.mlsli.com was my best friend for months (besides LIW!) I know you are probably sick of people telling you this, but the right house will come along eventually as long as you keep looking!! Chat Icon

I know it is frustrating but don't give up. We bought a great house no updates needed except paint for a great price in a great town. It is out there. Just be hang in thereChat Icon
