Neocate users:What were the signs?
Can you tell me the signs your baby had that made the dr switch to Neocate? My son has had exzema, diaper rash with open cuts and lots of spitting up (sometimes forceful.) He seems fussy often and he is always itchy. Sometimes he wants the bottle and then doesn't and then does all within minutes. So I wonder if the other formula made him feel sick but yet he was hungry, ya know. My insurance won't cover it so now I have to appeal it. Started Neocate last night. So far it gave him diarreah. Is that normal til his body gets used to it?

Re: Neocate users:What were the signs?
My son was projectile vomiting, would fight the bottle, he 12+ very loose bowel movements a day (some with visible bloody mucus in it, some not), and severe eczema. So bad on his face that in stores people would say stuff like "What's wrong with him?" "What happened to his face?"
Andy got severely constipated on Neocate, but the vomiting and fighting the bottle stopped pretty much immediately. My ped said not all kids get constipated. He still got eczema flare ups, but our allergist said that he's just got very sensitive skin that is prone to it since we've completely eliminated milk from his diet.
Good luck!
Oh, and for the insurance thing, do a search on here for Apria. They have all the right contacts and have helped so many moms on here when their insurance was fighting covering it.
ETA: I'd forgotten until I saw Michele's post but Andy cried a lot. Arching his back and everything. It was worse that Sarah's colic. I think I blocked it from my memory.

Re: Neocate users:What were the signs?
Neocate was our 3rd formula. (Similiac and Alimentum were first)
My DD had -Blood in her stool-noticeable and microscopic -EXtremely irritable, cried/screamed 20 hours a day, and screamed top of her lungs 4 hours straight from 7-11pm every night -bad diaper rash and bad rash on her face -Swollen eyes -Very mucousy -Loose Stool
My dd has eczema too, but so does my oldest and DH :) It's just her skin :)
Neocate for my DD was very constipating and made her poo smell like raw sewage.
It took about 2 days to see a tremendous improvement in her mood and about a week the rash on her face, swollen eyes, and mucous went away.
I think the spit up is unrelated. My dd was a BIG spitter, forceful at times too, until about 6-7 months old even with the neocate.
My Doc sent a letter of medical necessity to my insurance with a prescrip to get it covered. But laws are different in CT than NY, here, insurance companies HAVE to cover medical need formula unless it's a private funded ins.
It's so hard to see them in pain

Re: Neocate users:What were the signs?
Thank you. I have to call our insurance at 10am to speak with a certain lady to get the insurance to cover the formula. Wish me luck.
