Breech Baby/External Cephalic Version- Anyone have this done?

I had my 37 wk appt today and the Dr. said the baby is breech. I am going into the hospital tomorrow morning to try and turn the baby around. If not I will be having a C-Section on the 18th!!

Has anyone had this done? What can I expect?

My SIL had this done, but it was unsuccessful. During the turning the cord wrapped around the baby's neck and within a hour he was born via c-section.

Not to worry however my nephew is a happy and healthy 4 year old.

Sorry can't be of much help.

Chat Icon is also breech. My dr. told me that I could have a CV but that the chances of being able to turn him were 50/50 and even if he turned, he may not stay turned.

She also told me about the possibility of the procedure causing stress on the baby or having the cord wrap around baby's neck, in which case, you would have to have an emergency c-section.

I spoke to DH about it and we both agreed that since the likelihood of baby being turned and staying turned was less than 50%, we'd rather have a scheduled c-section and be prepared than risk any kind of stress on the baby.

It's definitely a personal decision, and I think for me personally, the thought of having a c-section does not bother me. I know it is very important for many women to experience natural childbirth.

Good Luck and let us know how it turns out!!

ETA: I hope my post did not sound critical of your decision!! I realize after I posted that you said your procedure was tomorrow! I wish you the best of luck and hope everything turns out well for you!! And I wanted to give you Chat Icon Chat Icon

I just want to send you hugs. Chat Icon

Are they/did they do a sono?

My nephew was breech and when they did the sono, her fluid levels were so low that she had to have a section the following day!

but I will not lie to you, her OB was talking her into the section (not because she is a section happy doc, but because my sister had already had a similar surgery done and she thought the recovery for her would be a breeze), but she told her that it would be a very painful thing to do and that it was only a 50% chance of success!

Good luck! Chat Icon

My DS was breech. I asked the dr about a version but she said that with first time mommies, things are so tight that it usually doesn't work and it is painful so she doesn't like to even try it.

Good Luck! I chose against having one, because of the size of my baby and the success rate. However, I do know of a few success stories, and I hope you are one of them! Chat Icon I ended up scheduling my c/s, only to have him arrive 3 weeks early anyway - total surprise!

My dd was breech...I did try it, it didn't work for me. I really wanted to try it in the hopes that it would of work. My little girl would move slightly then move back to her position. My dh and I finally decided she wanted to be in that position for a reason. It was an uncomfortable experience and slightly painful. I thought it was worth a try.

Good luck tomorrow! Keep us updated on how it worked!

My sister went to have it done, and they did a sono before hand. Believe it or not, the baby turned that morning so she didn;t need the procedure! I hope you have the same luck Chat Icon

Re: Breech Baby/External Cephalic Version- Anyone have this done?

I had a breech baby but was not able to have a ECV because of possible cord issues.
I had a c-section at 37 weeks and have a very happy and healthly 19 month old

Good Luck!!!!!
