Any Special Ed Math Teachers Out There?
I need some ideas for DH. He teaches special ed at the high school level and has one resource room consumer math class. He's been stressed out the last week trying to come up with new lesson plans that incorporate strategies of differentiated instruction? Anyone have any creative ideas or resources that can point us to? I would REALLY appreciate it. And so would he. TIA!

my advice is to do as many hands on activities as possible.
Dont have them write too many notes, try to provide worksheets that they can fill in.

Thanks! He comes up with all of these creative lesson plans, does worksheets and all of that stuff and still his supervisor think he needs to do more. I guess he running out of ideas as it gets towards the end of the year.
It's funny because I think back to High School and remember the teachers just lecturing. Nothing fancy. Now it seems as if they expect him to put on a song and dance each and every day which I think seems a bit unreasonable.

What topic are they doing now?? My class is now doing probability---we are using manipulatives to act out scenarios... We just finished time and money.

Re: Any Special Ed Math Teachers Out There?
Right now they're doing gas mileage which is part of the "traveling unit". His student's aren't really on track to comprehend probablity. His topics in the past have included money, time, tipping, rent, paychecks, overtime, budgeting, recipes, buying a car. Some future topics include taxes, banking, buying food and more on budgeting.
There are actually a lot of good creative plans that he's come up for these topics but it is incorporating the "differentiated instruction" that I guess needs to be augmented. I have to admit, I don't really understand what that means but in all of the professional development classes he's taken the instructors usually tell him that incorporating it in a math scenario is difficult and don't really offer solid tips. That's why I was asking for ideas because maybe if I understood what it meant I can come up with ideas and he and I can brainstorm together.
Thanks!!!
