I dont mind imitation crabmeat in a seafood salad. What I dont like is when restaurants think they can pass one over on me by calling it real crab. Also, dont throw it into tomato bisque and call it lobster bisque. Don't cover it in tempura batter, deep fry it and call it a crab stick.
It may be a good alternative for people with allergies or other types of dietary restrictions in which case, using it for stuffed mushrooms when someone is allergic would be very thoughtful on your part. As for me, I take it for what it is.

Yes, I would, but also you can get real crab meat in cans in the tuna aisle.

its fake crab meat- e.g. fish that looks like crab... tastes like crab...but is not crab!

I would use it if I had it, but if I were making the recipe, I would probably just buy the crab meat.
