does this make sense?

my ebv levels are high (epstein-barr) and my doc prescribed amoxicillin. i thought antibiotics don't help that?

i have to speak to him tomorrow before i fill the prescrip because i normally dont take antibiotics.

some doctors prescribe antibiotics for everything to placate patients. Good for you for second guessing! I don't take antibiotics unless I know I have a bacterial infection.
You are correct - epstein-barr is a virus, so an antibiotic would not do anything.

You could have two infections. When I had mono, i got strep throat at least once a month, which i took antibiotics for. Nothing for the mono, though. Of course this happened for like 4 straight months before anyone thought to test me for mono.


ETA: if you have mono, and do not have strep or another sort of bacterial infection, dont take to amoxicillain. Its associated with causing a skin rash in pt's with mono.

im calling tomorrow. im over this. the doc wasnt in and all the nurse could tell me wa that my ebv levels were high and maybe thats hy he prescribed it, but that makes no sense to me.

ok, i guess i have to wait until tomorrow!
