Viral labyrinthitis

I have not been feeling to well the past few days. Finally I went to the doctor today and in addition to pharyngitis, he said I also have viral labyrinthitis (viral infection in the inner ear that causes vertigo). He said I can't work until it clears up. Then he drops a bomb on me...it could take anywhere from 4 days to weeks to clear up.Chat Icon It is completely unreasonable for me to stay out of work for WEEKS! Anyone ever have this? How long did it last?

Re: Viral labyrinthitis

OH MY GOD....

I had Pharyngitis EXACTLY one year ago this week. I was SO sick I thought I was going to die... DH had to drive me to the doctor and I had a pretty high fever, couldn't eat, sleep or anything. I cried to the doctor to please make it stop. My temp went from like 99 the day before to like 102.5 the day I went to the doctor.

Feel better and eat - even if it's chicken soup. I had a lingering cough for weeks, I mean again I got sick this time last year and I was still coughing through May and June. Get as much rest as you can, but you'll probably be able to deal with work by sometime next week. The other thing I've never had, you'd have to go on disability to be out 4 weeks. That stinks! Mom's actually making me chicken soup (since I can not have canned due to the MSG content). I thought I had strep w/ how bad my throat hurt. I am gargling w/ salt water, but am still sore, coughing a little...mostly constant throat clearing. There is no way I could stay out of work for that long. Luckily the weekend buys me some time, but I have to be back no later than Tuesday. Another reason why being "paid per case" really stinks...no sick timeChat Icon

Re: Viral labyrinthitis

Do you pay disability insurance? Take care of yourself. I replied to your FM. I did lots of Bens Motzah ball soup, it got me through and it's nice and salty which helped the pain.

Do some hot tea with real squeezed lemon and a tablespoon of honey (not the flavored tea crap). Good temporary relief. Us preggos know the little tricks when you feel like crap.

I FM'd you back. It took a while, I type slow.

I don't know where there is a bens around here, but I will look it up. I don't go for the flavored tea either. DH has been giving me decaf tea w/ honey. The salt water gargles have helped. I am also taking air defender (extra vitamins could not hurt) and will pick up my Z-Pack tomorrow.

Yeah, we have DI, but I am not going to use it. I am just going to go back to work. My boss is just going to have to adjust my schedule a little. I'll rest up this weekend and Monday. As long as it does not get worse, I don't see any reason to stay out and not get paid.
