Looking for a OB/GYN in Suffolk County. That delivers at St. Charles Hospital. Any Suggestions?
Hi, Girls. I am in search of another OB/GYN. One who will listen to any questions that I have and will help me with being calm through my appointments and exams. Perferably female only but willing to try a male again if he listens and understands. Thank you so very much for all your help.

I go to Suffolk OB/Gyn and so far have been pleased with my treatment there.
For my first visit, I saw Dr. Marshak - she's VERY nice. This month's appointment will be with Dr. Tufano (marshak was booked) also a woman.
Here's a link to their website: Suffolk OB/Gyn

I go to Suffolk OBGYN, and I was originally only set on women as well. Well, I've seen the male doctors there, and I actually like them more!
Check them out!

i also see dr. marshak and suffolk OB. i really like her a lot although the last time i was there, she seemed a little rushed, annoyed and overextended. that's the last time i make an appt. for the end of the day....
i have never been to a male OBGYN and am very against it, so i might have to switch practices becasue i've heard they insist on you seeing all the dr.s in the practice....anyway, dr. marshak is great. highly reccomended :)

Re: Looking for a OB/GYN in Suffolk County. That delivers at St. Charles Hospital. Any Suggestions?
I went to see Dr. Edwards from Suffolk OB/GYN and heard so many nice things about him but when I went to see him he did not calm me down about the exam said that may be I need to take a valium for the next exam (second time that this was said to me, 1st was at Planned Parenthood never go there). I was thinking about making an appointment with one of the female doctors there. Michael also was not happy with Dr. Edwards because he was saying our baby making issues were my fault which duh I already knew that and so did Michael could you make me feel any better, thank you. I think I am going to make an appointment with either Dr. Marshak and or Dr. Trufano or I might search the MidWifes at San Romans Office. Could you give me the number or the web site for San Romans Office. Thank you so much girls you are so helpful.

Why were you so freaked out about an exam?

I used to go to Dr. Edwards at Suffolk OBGYN (I've since moved out of state). I always like him-why were you so nervous about your exam?

Re: Looking for a OB/GYN in Suffolk County. That delivers at St. Charles Hospital. Any Suggestions?
I am not really used to this as of yet. I am 33 and tried to have my first exam the autumn of 2002 with no success. I went to Planned Parenthood for that appointment. Then I saw Dr. Edwards for my second in January and let everyone know that I am extremely nervous. I used to be very nervous of going to doctors and dentists for awhile. I am better with doctors and dentists when I get used to them and I am actually able to communicate with them and they actually listen. I had a dentist actually slap me in the face when I was little so that was the hardest thing to overcome. I have a really nice dentist now. He is excellent and explains everything to me. That dentist that slapped me accross the face still is working as a dentist.
Also, my mom did not see a OB/GYN until she was pregnant with me. Hey, that was 1974. I have asked her many questions and totally get misinformed. My sister who is a year younger than me gives me more helpful information. I would use her OB/GYN but he is in PA.
There is plenty of reasons why I get nervous. I grew up in a house where of course I was loved but my dad was an acoholic. There was alot of yelling in the house by him. I want to just relax. If there is something wrong lets just talk about it; no need to yell about it.
So, it's a bunch of things. I want to get it done as much as everyone else wants me to. But, I need a doctor who will be patient and not yell at me to get me through this. If I could get through this I would be jumping for joy!!!!
Girls, thank you so much for helping me out.

Re: Looking for a OB/GYN in Suffolk County. That delivers at St. Charles Hospital. Any Suggestions?
I was concerned when I read this, only because I don't want you to be set on one doctor and be used to them-then you have a different doctor the day of delivery. The more calm you are, the more calm they will be.
Also, I am truly not trying to make it more difficult, but there will be so many doctors and nurses that you have never had contact with, that will be examining you when you are giving birth. You almost have to become really open with yourself bc frankly everyone and their mother will be looking at everything you have.
Maybe bring DH in to your appointments for comfort?
I was very nervous with my first appointment, and the doctor explained what was going to happen...after that, it was a cake walk! I now have no shame! lol

This is very true....... there are four doctors in my practice... all wonderful and patient (delivered at Southside so sorry I cannot help). The day I gave birth to DD there were about 15 - 20 people in the room. Honestly, I did not even notice.... okay, maybe I noticed the PA that looked like McSteamy... LOL.

Re: Looking for a OB/GYN in Suffolk County. That delivers at St. Charles Hospital. Any Suggestions?
I go to Dr Ninia in Port Jefferson Station. It is a 1 doctor practice so he delivers most of the babies (in rare cases and he is out of town or something else is going on his former partner delivers the babies). He has a physician's assistant (Stacy) and a Nurse Practitioner (Cecilia) who are both super nice. They will sit and talk to you if you are nervous about anything. If you are thinking of going there I would make your first appt with maybe Cecilia or Stacy just so you can get used to the exam and the office. Their phone # is 631-331-0500. HTH.

I go to Suffolk OB/GYN and LOVE them!! I've been going for years. My "primary" OB is Dr. Marshak but I've seen a few others and I really, really like Dr. Petraco. He's SO nice, he spent so much time with us, he was just wonderful. He also delivered my friend's baby last summer (C-section) and she was crazy about him!!

Dear Janine, Thank you so much. DH will definetly be with me because I feel more confortable with him there. I really just have to get used to that one part of the exam. I mean it's nothing to jump for joy over. But, I will if I get through the whole exam which I want to.
I am just so glad to have LIFamilies because I feel like I am getting more useful information. I am getting very outdated information from my mom.
Thank you so much again.

I absolutely agree. Michelle and Dr. San Roman delivered my son via c-section (she is a first assist in the OR). I saw Michelle for a majority of my appointments by choice and when I did see Dr. San Roman, he took a lot of time with us to answer our questions. They are all extremely personable and attentive there. I highly, highly recommend them.

Just to clarify-is it that you have never had an OBGYN exam before and you are nervous because this is your first time seeing someone?
If so, you do get used it. Especially once you get pregnant-you get over those nerves very quickly as people are poking around. You never like it but you get used to it.

do you plan on having DH in the room with you when you do the exam? is this your first exam? just make sure you remind him that it isn't pretty to watch their wife be examined and be in some minor pain/discomfort---his "man" relflex might kick in and he may get upset seeing that.

We want to have a child. DH is all ready but I have the tendancy to be nervous. My parents always said don't do it until your married. So, now that I am married I thought it would be easy but I have been nervous. Now that we moved into our own place. I feel like it is going to be easier since my mom will not be in our business. I ended up tightening up because I was very nervous and could not relax. We brought my issue up to the doctor and he kept on saying to Michael oh it's not your fault which Michael already knew but Michael wanted me to feel better since I was blaming myself for everything and the doctor really did not make me feel better.
Anyway, I am over that situation and willing to make another appointment with another doctor.
