My DH and I are going to start trying for baby #2 at the end of summer and I am looking for every tip, old wives tale or superstition to have a baby girl. Of course any and every healthy baby is a blessing from God, but I have a son and would love another boy, but incase I don't get to have 3 i'd love a girl this time around.

well if you haven't read Dr. Shettles How to Choose The Sex of Your Baby, you should look into it. It's a simple quick read. Here's a summary I found on the internet:

How to Conceive a Girl

Determining the Time of Ovulation:

Determining when you ovulate is vital when you are learning how to conceive a girl. Shettles recommends that you have sex 2 1/2 to 3 days BEFORE ovulation in order to increase your chances of conceiving a girl. Having sex closer to ovulation will dramatically decrease your chances of conceiving a girl. The timing of intercourse in relation to ovulation is a vital factor in increasing your chances of having a girl.

Shettles suggests three specific ways in which to do this.




1) Charting Cervical Mucus
Dr Shettes goes into full detail on how to chart your cervical mucus in Part Three of his book, How to Choose the Sex of Your Baby. You can download a blank CM chart in two different formats: PDF or Excel Spreadsheet.
With this method of determining when you ovulate, you access your cervical mucus on a daily basis. Right before you ovulate, your cervical mucus should be very watery and very elastic. It's consistency should be that of raw egg white. Charting for more than a month before you attempt to conceive a girl is recommended so you can be CERTAIN that you are ovulating on a specific day.




2) Basal Body Temperature (BBT) Charting
Shettles also suggests that you use BBT charting a long with charting your cervical mucus in order to gain as much information in order to pinpoint when exactly you are ovulating. He goes into full detail on how to accurately chart your BBT in Part Three of his book. You can download a blank BBT chart in two different formats: PDF or Excel Spreadsheet. This chart also includes an area to record your Cervical Mucus assessments.
In order to chart your basal body temperature ( BBT ) you will need to purchase a basal thermometer. Before you get up each morning, you will take your temperature before you do ANYTHING. Any activity can lead to innacurate temperature readings. At the time of ovulation, you will see a spike in your temperature which will indicate that you have already ovulated. Considering that you need to have sex 2 to 3 days away from ovulation in order to increase your chances of having a girl, you will need to chart at least two months before you can make good use of the information that your charting reveals.

We concieved girls both times that we were not trying (but not not trying too hard either, just rythym method). We DTD DAYS (probably 4) before I was supposed to O so I "thought" it was safe and we ended up PG both times with girls (first was a m/c). So the earlier the better I think.

There is a website called in-gender.com that has tons of ideas for conceiving your desired gender.

They suggest diets and supplements, in addition to timing.

We're going to try to sway for a this time and I'm using lots of their suggestions.

hmmmm this website is very interesting. so much for some of these theories mentioned above....who knows right.

Are you hoping to sway nature's 50/50 odds in your favor of conceiving a girl? If you're already the mother of boys, don't be fooled by statements like, "If you have 2 or 3 sons, the odds are 75% of having another boy" -- because it isn't true. Statistically, population data proves that no matter how many children of the same gender you have, the next baby still has even odds of being a girl or a boy. (See The Odds of having another Boy or Girl.)

Or, if you have heard that some men only make X or Y sperm and so can only father boys or girls, take heart! This is a myth as well, because all men have virtually equal numbers of X and Y sperm. Also, statistical analysis has shown that having only boys or girls doesn't "run in the family", although it can seem that way.

One thing I learned from the in-gender site was that I was actually doing a lot of things to sway for a boy when I conceived DS -- drinking green tea, taking flax seed oil, working on a lap-top computer. Additionally, he was concieved on a full moon, which favors . So, I've changed my diet and my supplements a bit -- who knows if it will work.

Hmm...we are pregnant with #1, and I really have my heart set on a little (no flames please, I would be VERY happy with either!). However, I know that we conceived as a result of BD about 4 hours AFTER O.

It'll be interesting to see if we have a or a !!

As I had an IUI, I am really interested to see what I had, there was some BD'ing for good measure as well!

DH says his secret for TTC was beer, chicken wings and ice cream...it worked and we are having a .. hehe

all seriousness though, ive heard it could depend on sexual positions. Old wives tales i guess..
