Crochet or Knitting
Which would you say is easier to learn? I would like to make my DC that is on the way, a blanket. Do you think I will be able to learn and finish a blanket by Nov.?

I think that crochet is easier to learn and also works up faster than knitting. When I was teaching myself I found that Crochet Cabana has some great and easy baby afhan patterns that I started with.

i learned to crochet at age 7
taught myself to knit at age 27
the one you learn first seems to be easier for most people.
i can think of an easy blanket in each crochet and knit that would be relatively quick to work up.
pros of each:
crochet: if you drop your hook or need to un-do a stitch is only ONE STITCH
knit: you always know where the next stitch goes
cons of each:
crochet: you don't always know where the next stitch goes and uneven tension is easier to see
knit: as a beginner, you HAVE to get to the end of the row before you can put it down. and if you drop your needle... OH BOY!

oh, and...
either technique, for your first project being something that will OBVIOUSLY be sentimental... i would suggest you use big yarn and needle/hook... this way you'll see progress faster and be encouraged to finish it

I found crocheting easier to learn and faster at doing the basics. i havent been able to figure out how to do any really patterns. I can only seem to do single and double stitching on crocheting. Knitting i tried teaching myself and didnt get very far.

I think crocheting is easier but like a pp said, I think it's because I learned that first. I found a really super easy baby blanket kit that I make for gifts b/c it's inexpensive and fast. It's called pound of yarn or something like that. It comes in a bag and has the instructions on the label. It uses very easy crochet stitches. I think it might also have a knitting pattern on it too but I always do the crochet one.

I taught myself to knit a few years ago...I tried to teach myself crochet...but I just can't seem to get it  So, I say knitting is easier
