Interviewing while currently teaching
I currently teach in a private school. I like it there, but the money stinks so I have sent out my resumes. I have recently started getting calls.
What really stinks is that most of these are "screening interviews" that I know last only about 10 minutes tops and the districts are holding them in the midmorning. When I tell them I'm currently teaching and ask to come in after 3pm most say "sorry, we are only holding them between such and such a time"
What am I supposed to do? I really can't justify taking the whole day off for a screening interview...if it is a demo or a call back interview, that is one thing but come on...Sorry, I'm just so frustrated with this whole process
Anyone else experiencing the same thing?

Re: Interviewing while currently teaching
I have that problem because I teach in the city. So even if the interviews are scheduled for 3pm I still would have to take the day off for a 10 minute interview

Re: Interviewing while currently teaching
I had the same problem when was interviewing earlier this year. They really don't seem to care if you are inconvenienced. If you can't make it at their time, they'll just find someone else who can. So, you just have to make it work. I was lucky enough to have an AP who was understanding and let me take a half day and leave early here and there. It was a royal pain, but worth it in the end. good luck!

You just have to manage it - when I was doing it, some school districts were more understanding and flexible and I could schedule things for later in the school day or after, but others, I tried to schedule early so I could come in late. I dont' think I ever had to take a whole day.
