Question for a friend...
Hi ladies,
One of my friends is pregnant and just received a phone call from her cousin saying that she (the cousin) received a measles vaccination earlier this week and should stay away from anyone who is pregnant. My friend called her OB/GYN and they said they never heard of this...is there any truth to this?
TIA and sorry if I was a bit confusing!

Re: Question for a friend...
i never heard of this before, the only thing i can think of is maybe the woman that had the measles vaccine may get a slight reaction to the shot, and may develope a very mild case of the measles. i know this can sometimes happen with the chickenpox vaccine. and if that happens, i know pregnant women should stay away from anyone with the measles. thats the only thing i can think of.

Re: Question for a friend...
I work in a dr's office and I heard of that. they say that because you can get a reaction 10 days after recieving the vaccine. it's also a live vaccine so it is active.

Re: Question for a friend...
Yes, the reason is because it is a live vaccine and there is a slight risk of transferring it to other people. However, people who have been vaccinated should be fine, as long as they are not immunocompromised (i.e. cancer or HIV).

Re: Question for a friend...
When I went to the dr to get my blood work results, the only thing that came back with a problem was that I am no longer immuned to rubella. Another words, my mmr shot ran out and after I have the baby, I have to get another shot. So maybe this could be a reason. I know I should stay away from people who just had shots.
