blisters - best treatment?

We did a lot of landscaping this weekend and, despite wearing gloves, DH and I both came away with a few (open) blisters.

I only have one, but DH has several along the palm of his left hand (and he is left-handed). Is there anything he can do to help them heal faster?

He can't close his fingers... We have horses and ride several days a week - until his blisters heal, he can't close his fingers (so he can't ride, even with gloves, and can't do much around the horses). I realize it's a shot in the dark, but figured I'd ask in case there's anything that can help them heal faster -- or at least relieve some of the pain.

Thanks

I think I remember using hot compresses and then once the blisters are open, neosporin or bacitracin..find the one that has the pain reliever in it. It will take a while to heal but you should try not to aggravate it. Sometimes blisters turn into callouses.

Thanks!

They are all open, so I will use the neosporin or bacitracin... I'll definitely look for the one with the pain reliever. Mine is in a better spot (outside my thumb) so I can ride and it doesn't really hurt - just looks ugly. Poor DH's are on the palm of his writing hand, so he's in pain. Chat Icon

Also look for the those bandaid blister bandages. They are supposed to be good too! Chat Icon

Oh wow, I didn't even know there was such a thing! I'll definitely take a look for them.

Should blisters be covered or open? I'm covering mine with a bandaid during the day at work -- b/c it's very visible and really gross looking. (I can't scare away the clients and summer associates. It's also on my right hand, so who would want to shake THAT?!)

Then I've been leaving the band aid off at night... mainly b/c it's in an awkward spot to keep a bandaid on and I've been having to change it at least once a day at the office...

I believe they should be OPEN. fresh air will help dry them up. Are the bilsters open or no? If they are not open, try and squeeze the water out of them. and then apply some ointment to them and let them be. but if you are going to be out riding or doing stuff outdoors where you can get dirt on the blisters, I would put a bandage on them (you don't want them to get infected).

Good luck!

The blisters are all open. My DH keeps his uncovered all the time. I've been putting a band-aid on mine while I am at work. It's on the outside of my hand (and I shake a lot of hands) -- it would be highly visible and probably gross people out. (ew!) I've been leaving it uncovered at night. I just wanted to make sure that it wasn't supposed to be covered all the time.

We'll definitely keep them covered if we're out doing something where they can get dirty...
