maternity leave: how much can you get?

ok, so I finally spoke to HR and payroll. Since DH is still only on stipend, we really need my income... so I can only take-off as long as I get the majority of my salary. I can't just accept disability...

I calculated 66 days, if I munch up all of my leave/vaca/sick time..... not too bad. I was frankly expecting less time (about a month).

so how long can you afford to take off?

My company covers 12 weeks for a natural delivery and 14 for a c section (I have to use 4 sick days within this time). I also have a bunch of vacations but I am going to save them to take off as much as possible over the holidays.

I am taking 9 months off. I am a teacher and have the ability to do this obviously not paid. I get paid for a certain amount of time and whatever sick days I have.

My company pays 8 weeks and than I'll use vacation time I have saved. So in total I plan on taking 14 weeks.

we get paid for 8 weeks, and can take up to 16 weeks all together. I'm taking the 16 weeks, so I'll get paid for half of the time I am out

We don't get any leave other than our sick & vacation time, so just about 5 weeks if I use up all of my time at once...which I hesitate to do. I'll probably only take 4 weeks & then leave my sick time for emergencies...

My company offered to pay me for 8 weeks and I have 4 weeks vacation accrued which I plan on using....

With that said I am not sure when I will actually return to work. That is still to be determined. So after 12 weeks I will not be paid for anything.

I didn't get anything but disability. It was so hard esp since I went out over 2 months early.

This time when I get PG I won't even get disability since I only work PT.

First, I get 4 weeks paid leave prior to my due date. Then, I get 6 weeks paid for vag birth or 8 weeks paid for c-section. After that, I will use my vacation time. I hope to be out for at least 12 weeks total- after the birth.

I spoke to HR, and they said that NYS disability is $170 a week.... but we could use up vacation days - a day or so and still have the same salary (4/5 vacation pay + $170 = normal salary )

The only problem is that we are legally disabled for 6 weeks and I believe we could possibly need a Dr's note to return to work earlier than that

I was very lucky... my firm gave me 6 weeks paid maternity leave and then I took 2 weeks paid vacation on top of that for a total of 2 months.

I am very lucky to work for a great company. I get 9 weeks paid for vag birth or 11 weeks paid for c-section. After that, I will tack on some of my vacation time. (we get 4 weeks of vacation per year, which I hope to take 2 weeks from this years vacation and 2 weeks from 09' vacation time)

My company allows us to take up to a year unpaid, and my goal is to be get 12 weeks full pay and maybe another month or two upaid after the birth.

I only get 6 weeks paid through disability. The rest will be unpaid through fmla. Because our company was recently acquired, I have barely any vacation time. I plan on taking as much time off as possible even without pay through fmla & parental leave.

my job gives 8 weeks with disability pay but b/c I do 1099 I dont get benefits and I took off 12 weeks with DD this time I probably will take off 15-16 weeks and only going back 1 1/2 days. with 2 it will be harder.

I'm very lucky. I get 90 days paid leave and can add any vacation/personal time onto that.

Including vacation time, I'll end up with 12 weeks paid.

I am getting 12 weeks total. My doctor is putting me out of work 3 weeks before my due date, I will get paid for those 3 weeks. Once I give birth I will get paid for 6 weeks if I deliver vaginally or 8 weeks if I have a c-section. Any time I have left afterwards will be unpaid.

i get 12 weeks unpaid - we can afford it now b/c DH is working a lot of OT and we are saving a lot of $$, but if i had to, i could come back sooner than 12 weeks.

(some of my leave will be paid, about 4 weeks worth, because i have to use up all of my time, but that's no big deal).

I get 7 days paid maternity leave. Then I get 6 or 8 weeks of disability paid for by our private STD policy plus I can also collect NYS STD during that time. The STD from our private company is only 60% of my salary & then NYS disability is about $170/week.

I don't have to use my vacation time if I don't want to, but I will probably use a few days & save the rest.

ETA: We can't afford for me to be out longer without pay. I make more than DH. DH is going to try to work from home a few days a weeks after I go back to work. I don't really have the option to work from home.

The state gives us up to seven months. I will likely take four or so, 3 1/2 of which will be paid via sick, vacation, personal and reduction in salary now to get later.
