homemade brown spaghetti sauce

hi guys -

i am looking to make homemade spaghetti sauce. my great aunt made the best sauce --- it was browner than most sauces -- and i loved it!! unfortunately, she passed away a few years ago and i don't have the recipe.
i'd really love to try and make something like it.

know lots of ppl on this board make their own sauce. if anyone knows a recipe that you think would fit the bill (i have no idea what ingredients made hers browner than most!), i'd REALLY appreciate it if you could pass it along.

different meats will make your sauce more brownish then red...not so much sausage, but bracciole, or slices of steak will do that....
