Oil to Gas conversion

Does anyone know approximately how much it would cost to switch an average sized home over to gas heat?

TIA!

i was quoted two years ago with nearly free equipment from keyspan, you pay like $500 of it, plus plumber to hook it up...the plumber quoted me about $3000. So it would have cost me about $3500.

and on a side note, you need to have an exsiting gas line in your house. in my case i use gas for everything else (hot water, cooking) except heating. if you do not have a gas line to your house it will cost you in the 10's of thousands.

i did not switch to gas though. i came from queens and oil was strange and foreign to me. but now, i see no difference. even the shopping for prices every year doesn't feel that differnt.

Re: Oil to Gas conversion

we just converted our home to gas. First you need to call keyspan and find out if there are gas lines on your block. If the gas lines are 100 feet away from your house, they bring it to your house for free, if not that it starts to cost you some money, but I don't know how much. Keyspand needs to then get a permit to rip up the street from your town. Sometimes that takes time. So for a new gas boiler, gas hotwater heater, running all the pipes in the house and all the labor we wer charged $6000. Chat Icon I would say that is average. HTH! If you have any questions FM me.

We paid about $3000 if I remember correctly. We already had gas service to the house for our stove so it was really easy. 1 day to remove the oil burner & tank, 1 day to install the gas burner and test that it was working properly.

We did our conversion over the summer and it was exactly 4K which included new burner and new chimney liner.

Could you give us some names as to who you used or who you got estimates from? I'm looking to convert but Keyspan gave me a price of $6400 and I know people get it done cheaper. Thank you.
