European travelers- I have a question for you
DH is a teacher and as of last year, has started to run trips through a tour company (ACIS). As part of getting a certain # of students to register to go, they give us a free 5 day trip in January. Here are the options:
Rome Amsterdam Bavaria Lucerne Madrid Prague Reykjavik (Iceland)
They also include London and Paris, but we have already been and will be going with the kids again in April.
Which would you chose? We are leaning towards Bavaria, since I took German in HS and would love to use it plus DH really wants to have a stein of good german beer!
We will probably be going to Italy in 2010 with the kids, so that is why we not really leaning towards Rome. And the other places listed, I have no idea about them.
TIA!

Barvaria is a BEAUTIFUL area of Germany! That would be my vote!
Kudos to you and your DH for taking students abroad! I've been asked numerous times to do it and I refuse to take upon the responsibility!

Re: European travelers- I have a question for you
Madrid and Amsterdam are two of my most favorite cities in the world.
We were just in Madrid last month and loved it VERY much. Tapas crawling is perhaps one of the best inventions on earth! Plus, you can easily take a high-speed train to Seville or Barcelona if you wanted to.
I'd stay away from Iceland. While beautiful, it is EXTREMELY expensive to eat/drink/tour there. You'd immediately lose the buzz you'd have gotten for having a free trip.

Re: European travelers- I have a question for you
my teacher friend just did this and to quote her - "I couldn't wait to say goodbye to the little beasts in JFK." So I imagine this takes an AWFUL lot of energy....kudos!!! (All that said though, she had a great time, just said its tons of work.)
But what a nice reward -- I'd pick Madrid. I loved Spain - only been to Barcelona - so I'd want to see more of the country.

OMG- that is exactly how it is!!!! By the last day of the 8 day trip, we were ready to say goodbye and couldn't get them to their parents fast enough in the airport!!
This next time we will have other teacher friends of DH's with us, so it won't be entirely on us to constantly keep on eye on them.
It is a TON of responsibility, but this is the only way we would have probably ever gotten to travel the world!

Re: European travelers- I have a question for you
Since you have never been, I say Bavaria. I went to school about an hour outside and LOVE LOVE LOVE it there!
but you have great options. Prague is the Paris of Eastern Europe, so if you loved Paris, this is a good option. Madrid has it's cosmopolitan aspects and Hemingway, but I don't find it to be as interesting as other European cities (DH is from madrid, so we have spent a good amoutn of time there)
Amsterdam can be done is less than 5 days. Can you pair it up with Brussels? or tack it onto another trip?

Re: European travelers- I have a question for you
I think watching a bunch of students in Amsterdam would be difficult.
Sorry not sure if I understand. Do you get to pick the place where students go to travel and then you go for a cheaper price? If that is the case I would think about the place where you are going with a bunch of students.

This trip is for me and Dh only. We already are going with the kids to England and France in April. It's a prize for us signing up the kids.
Can you imagine having about 30-40 16,17, and 18 year olds in Amsterdam?? just kill me now!

Re: European travelers- I have a question for you
While Prague and Amsterdam are beautiful, I think you could do them in less than 5 days or maybe as a 2-city break. I would go with Madrid or Bavaria.
