Gift for a sick friend (cancer)
A very good family friend was diagnosed with cancer and next week will be undergoing a proceedure (not sure what) that will require limited contact with people for 3 months.
I wanted to send flowers to cheer her up and let her know we are thinking of her but
- Not sure if flowers are okay
- Not sure if something else would be better
Any advice? Thanks!

My mom was going through this last year. She got so many flowers and gift baskets it was enough already. I sent her a Vermont Teddy Bear and she loved it. I tell you, she slept with that thing for months and it helped her through a really tough time. It's amazing what comfort a stuffed bear can give a grown woman when they are suffering. Just an idea!

I agree..something soft and cuddly and pampering.
Nice soft slippers, good books, DVDs, body pillow..things that would comfort her.
Sounds like a marrow transplant..sorry to hear that. I wish her a speedy recovery and a remission!

Thank you both! I absolutely love the Vermont Teddy Bear Idea!!! It can be from my DS!!! She can't make it to his party and her message broke my heart...this would be perfect!

I would pass on the flowers. When my mom was going through treatment, the smell really bothered her.
I think something fun like PJs, slippers, a book, etc. would be great.

it sounds like maybe a stem cell transplant
flowers are NOT ok at all- they can be dangerous to a person with a week immune system
I think books, magazines, a stuff animal are all great idea
food is not ok either- they have a very limited diet they can eat
good luck to you family friend- they have come along since my Mom got hers

can she still go out to stores? if so, then how about a gift certificate to a book store so she can load up on books or magazines? comfy pjs also sound like a great idea!!
i hope she gets better soon!

not sure if this is too late, but for 2 friends who underwent cancer treatment, I gave them 3 month subscriptions to Netflix

My sister had cancer and she loved getting magazines, movies, crossword puzzles and pjs. Another gift she got which I thought was a great gift was a house cleaner. This helped her not worry about getting things done when she wasnt up for it.

i sent my cousin a pajamagram when people are sick they spend a lot of time in their pjs so its nice to have a new pretty pair of pjs
