Moving- Paid by the hour?
How did you pay for your movers?
By the hour or a flat rate?
And if by the hour, did they take the expected time?

Re: Moving- Paid by the hour?
When we moved into our house we paid by the hour. It was a local move within Chicago city limits. The movers had a 3 (or 4 hour minimum) from when they start/finish loading and unloading the truck.
I think they estimated 6 hours and it ended up being 9 hours. We had two pieces of furniture that would no go down in the basement and it was really cold that day (middle of March) so they would take a break to warm up.

Re: Moving- Paid by the hour?
We paid a flat rate based on how much stuff we needed them to move, and the distance probably factored in too. They did a great job, we were very happy!!

Re: Moving- Paid by the hour?
We paid by the hour and they took about a hour less than we thought they would.

What company did you use? I have not been able to find any yet that charge a flat rate for a local move within Nassau County?
Thanks

Re: Moving- Paid by the hour?
They were paid a flat rate by the hour. The estimate my moving company gave was pretty much right on with how many hours it would take.
I paid $120 an hour

Re: Moving- Paid by the hour?
We paid by the hour when we moved from apt to apt (45 min travel too) & they did it an hour quicker than they anticipated (& really worked).
Then when we moved from the apt to our house we did by the hour & they came in 1/2 hour over what they expected.

Re: Moving- Paid by the hour?
For local moves I paid by the hour. I moved all my boxes myself and only left large furniture items that I couldn't lift. With only one set of bedroom furniture, LR and DR plus a desk and few odds and ends it still took 4 hours, but that usually the minimum.
