I would start by seeing your regular pcp. Then you may be able to get a referral to a social worker, psychologist or psychiatrist as needed.

I did that. I went to my doc. Told him I need someone to talk to and he referred me to someone who was wonderful. She is a CSW. She has brought sanity back to my life. My regular doc at one point prescribed some meds and monitored me closely.

I'm not on meds any more and still see my therapist.

psychologist to evaluate if you need meds
they will refer you to a psychiatrist

Avoid trist if you don't want to be on meds.

I recommend you look for a someone who has their licensure in psychotherapy or specializes in REBT.

If you google and do a quick search there are sites that allow you to search in your immediate town of preference and a lot of therapists have profiles up now so you can see what they specialize in. FM if you need help searching.

I would see a psychologist for counseling/therapy first. Psychiatrist is more for meds. Good luck!
