Holy crap hospital fees
I just received a copy of what was charged to my insurance company for the pre surgical visit I had. They did a routine checkup and bloodwork to make sure I'd be ok to get anesthesia. The bill is over 1K
They mailed it to me, and I have to send my 10 copay since they didnt take it when I was there.
I wonder how much the surgery itself is going to be billed for

My son was in the NICU for 6 weeks after he was born and just his medicines cost over $40k. The bills for him being there were close to half a million

I know what you are talking about. My DS nursery bill alone was $4500. I think he was in the nursery a total of 5 hours in my 2 days in the hospital. I BF so he was with me throughout the night. He was originally in the nursery for his first bath and clean up and then maybe one more hour for the 2 days that I put him in there while I took a shower.
I asked my DH if they bathed him in gold becasue the bill was sooo much!

yep, sick insurance game. The hospitals and doctors have to submit insane bills to get what little they get..
of course that's not the whole story, but each time a doctor raises his/her rate to the insurance co it increases the R&C and then the insurance company readjusts for demo and geog..it's a circle.
My regular doctor visits are billed at $325. My DO who checks BP and gives me a b12 shot. 10 minutes later, I'm out. He gets $55 for the visit and I give him a $20 co-pay.

at the beginning of the year i went to the emergency room with a kidney stone. i was there for four hours and the bill came to over 10k. i knew it would be expensive but i didnt expect that.

$63K for my DH neck surgrey- in the hospital for 36 hours
my moms bills were over $2 Million- but she was sick for 2 years and Sloan Kettering is $2500 a DAY for just the room

wow! compared to you guys i shouldnt have been shocked when I got a $700 bill for a 9 min ambulance ride to the hospital! the insurance covered it but still a shock!

WOW! I guess my DH got away cheap. he had a kidney stone last summer - I took him to Good Samaritan and we were there for the same amount of time as you. the total bill was $5500 and that includes a CT scan
thank GOD we only had to pay $75!

Each of my 3 children were over $20k. My kidney stone in 2002 was $7000. My umbilical hernia surgery was $12k. It is just crazy.
I can't imagine how much 3 stitches and an ER visit for my 3 year old is going to be.
On another note I just had my windshield replaced on my car... the bill was $276 if I paid it, it gets billed to the insurance company for $500. What really gets me is it's the insurance company who sets the price... so they get to raise our rates. Something is seriously wrong.

Same for us. In the NICU for 5 weeks. I think it was close to 2k a day.

Crazy isn't it?  My hospital bill for a week stay with my kidney infection was over $21K My c/s surgery wasn't even that much!

Hah!!!
When I was in the hospital for Rogan (nine days in the maternity ward) the bill for the room only was $50K....that doesn't include any of the testing, the delivery or anesthesia.

I had reconstructive surgery on my ankle/heel in 2001. It was in Manhattan and I had to stay for 4 days - the bill was over 75k!
Luckily it was covered under Workers Comp!!
