I would be interested in finding out about this too. Is the test ongoing or do they hold them only on certain dates?
Thanks.

It's the Clerk Typist test and I would keep checking the civil service website for when it becomes available again.

Clerk Typist is correct, my mom was one and she will always tell people to go for the Senior Clerk Typist after and if you can Steno, that is even better.
Check Nassau and Suffolk regularly (although i was lookign for DH's cousin and I think it was just the end of June ), but Nassau has residential requirements, not sure about Suffolk.

Re: Civil Service test...anyone take it ?
I took the clerk typist a couple of years ago. I know in Suffolk County that the schools hire off the Suffolk County Clerk Typist civil service list. I'm on it and get A LOT of letters for interviews. I never go on them though because you are required to work summers. The Town of Brookhaven also hires off that list, as do a lot of other local government offices.
Just an FYI, the State civil service test posted above is not for schools. You would most likely get a job at SUNY or other local state government offices.

I think Civil Serivce offered the Clerk test back in March. 3 of my staff members took it. Not sure when it'll be offered again.
Keep looking on Nassau's website for new tests.

Not necessarily...there are a lot of 10 month positions (most in school positions are 10 month)...although it does mean the first few days of July and the last few days of August.

Every single one I have gotten have been 12 month positions, and I've received many. Maybe it depends on the district, who knows. I've received Rocky Point, Middle Country, and Sachem. My friend is an executive asst. to the Principal and hired off the list and she works the Summer, as do most of the office staff hired off the list. Para's and teacher aides don't work in the Summer, but then again they aren't hired off the clerk typist list.
