what was your first crochet project?
. . .forthose of you who crochet.
I taught myself the basics & wans to make something, preferable something I can give my friend who just had a baby ( like a small blanket), but everyhting that I fond patterns for doesnt' see so beginner to me.
I know single crochet, double crochet, half double crochet, trbel chrocet, and sort of so a slip stich if I ahve my book in front of me, I havent' tried 2 colors yet, but I grasp teh concept.
Any ideas?
The one blanket I like in the book I have involves v-stiching, which I am just getting the hang of & working in a chain space, which I don't really get.

Re: what was your first crochet project?
Try a granny square blanket--they are super easy. I learned how to make the squares in The Complete Idiot''s Guide to Knitting and Crocheting.
This was actually my first real project three years ago when my nephew was born. You can buy the "baby colored" yarn that already has all the pastels woven into the one strand; it looks like you''ve used several colors when you didn''t. Then I edged it it white and crocheted the whole thing together. I gave it to him at his christening--my sister was astounded to find out that I had really made it!
I''m actually in the process of making one for my own September baby right now. Good Luck!!

Thanks! I was a little intimidated by attachingt higns together, but I guess sit is reassuring to make it one square at a time---not as overwhelming!

Re: what was your first crochet project?
ooh-I found this blanket pattern.
It seems easy enough without the shell border.
The baby is 2 days old, so I think I can get it done before his Christening!

That's what I thought, but they all seemed so complex. I guess I could just double crochet for a while untill it was big enough & call it a blanket!

I did a scarf. Second I did a dog sweater, without a pattern I wouldn't recommend that!

Re: what was your first crochet project?
My very first crochet project was a Vanna White pattern (a la Wheel of Fortune!!). It was a baby afghan for my cousin who's now 10. It was just a straight stitch all the way through with a crocheted airplane and stars stitched on top. It was cute but a little smaller than it was supposed to be because I did the stitch too tight.
After I finished that I got very adventurous and made my girlfriend a blanket, sweater, bonnet and booties for her daughter...and that was the last project I completed!

Re: what was your first crochet project?
when I started when I was young the first project was a pot holder!
I put it down for a long time and picked it up again recently. I think my first project finished since was a baby blanket.
