I think they usually need 1/4" of hair, so it depends on how fast your hair grows.

I know my hair seems to grow faster when I shave as opposed to waxing. I could go probably a week or two after shaving, but with waxing I would probably need at least 4 weeks.

I beleive 1/4 of an inch is about right.

Good luck waiting for it to grow out. I've NEVER been able to go a full week - I've tried. Chat Icon It just grosses me out. I just got the chills thinking about it. Chat Icon

Only my hubby and my gyno have been up close and personal to know the difference either way.

Re: completely bizarre and tmi question about bikini waxing

i ALWAYS USED TO SHAVE BUT THEN DECIDED IN THE BEGINNING OF THE SUMMER THAT I WAS GOING TO TRY THE BIG BIKINI WAX. !!!! I LET IT GOW OUT QUITE A BIT BECAUSE IF YOU DON'T AND GO, YOU GO THROUGH THE " PAIN" FRO NOTHING.. IT WON'T PULL UP THE HAIR THE WAY IT SHOULD. I WOULD LET IT GROW ATLEAST A LITTLE BIT. NOW I THINK I'VE WAXED TWICE ALL SUMMER SINCE THE FIRST TIME.. BEST THING I EVER DID.... ( I'M A BEACH PERSON THOUGH SO I'M ALWAYS IN MY BATHING SUIT =))

Re: completely bizarre and tmi question about bikini waxing

so I waited til this week and I went.

it was good, but I was chided for shaving...EVER lol and was told that since shaved hair doesn't grow evenly, a few small ones would have to grow it.

four weeks for number 2...she said it won't hurt as much next time Chat Icon

Re: completely bizarre and tmi question about bikini waxing

Are we talking about a reg bikini wax, a brazilian, or a french?

it needs to be the perfect length, if it's to short or to long it'll hurt more. 4 weeks growth after a wax sounds about right....

I know, they always scold me too.. they can tell when you've used a razor.

Just wondering though.. is there enough growth at 4 weeks. Because now it's been almost 3 weeks & it just starting to grow in unevenly.. so I was going to wait 6 weeks Chat Icon

My place has it backwards I believe.. a french in their terms is bald. a brazilian is "a landing strip". I was under the impression it was the other way around.. Brazilian = bald, French = landing strip

Re: completely bizarre and tmi question about bikini waxing

I was right, my place is wrong..lol A la Wikipedia...

American waxing refers to a removal of hair exposed at the top of the thighs and just under the navel when wearing a regular bikini bottom. It is also known as a basic bikini wax.

French waxing leaves a vertical strip in front (a landing strip), two to three fingers in width just above the vulva. It is also known as a partial Brazilian wax.Hair of the peri-anal area and labia may be removed. Removal of hair from these areas are also known as the Playboy wax or G-waxing. A soft wax used by sculptors to create models for casting in bronze is also known as French wax.

Brazilian waxing refers to a removal of almost everything, front to back except for a thin strip of hair on the pubis. An extreme form of bikini waxing, it involves a complete removal of hair from the buttocks and adjacent to the anus, perineum and vulva (labia majora and mons pubis). Waxes that completely remove the pubic hair are known as a full Brazilian wax, full Bikini wax, Hollywood wax or the Sphinx. While mainly associated with females, genital waxing also has a male clientèle.
