So, remember when I asked your opinion about Gavin transitioning to a cot?

It turns out that his rooms was understaffed at the time we got there yesterday, so he spent some time in the older Infant C room that they wanna send him to in September.....

The director called me at work to tell me that he was doing great in there and even slept on a cot for 45 min........ummmmmm, what am I supposed to say to this?

I said, OK, that's good.
He then took and even longer nap in his crib that afternoon.

I am fine with the one time, but what if I pick him up today and he has slept on the cot again, after I specifically asked that he remain in his crib for the time being?

DH said that is he's doing well, then that's good, but what about what we asked for him as his parents?

WWYD?

I trust my daycare providers, and I personally feel that they know more about dealing with kids in groups than I do. If he slept on the cot and he was happy, I would just go with it.

How old is DS? At my DS's day care they will not allow him to sleep the cot untill he is 2yrs old. Perhaps a safety law Chat Icon

If you dont feel comfortable with the situation you should speak to the director. Perhaps they are trying to push him/you to make more space?

I think I would feel the same way. They wouldn't put him on something that wasn't safe, it would be a liability for them and all the better that he slept well at daycare.

Maybe I am alone here and I admit I am a bit crabby today but I would be ****** they went against your wishes. Whether he slept well in the cot is not the point. You said you wanted him in the crib and they put him on a cot. So because a couple times he did well your wishes as the parents don't matter? My ds will sleep better in a bed but the doesn't mean he won't fall out if he rolls wrong one day. That's why he is in a crib. I find it odd that after having the chat with the day care and telling them you want him in the younger room they happen to be short staffed and your son happens to be bumped into the room they want to switch him to.

I agree, I would be mad. If they never asked you about the cot and he slept great then I would be fine with it. But they asked and you said NO! Sorry, but no means no, not lets try it and tell her how great he did.

I would say something about them directly going against your wishes.

Re: So, remember when I asked your opinion about Gavin transitioning to a cot?

I think that I am pretty easygoing with my daycare center but I would be annoyed if they did something like this. It is a bit sneaky of them to try it out after you said NO and then tell you how great it was. Sure, you can say that they know best and would not do something dangerous, but they are only human and you know your child's needs. In order to prevent problems you have to explain those needs from time to time. Your child is a bit young for a cot, IMO. I might go with it only because I do not think that my DS has trouble sleeping in new places but I would be concerned for his size and that in a crib he is more shielded from other kids. In fact, I am relieved that my child is remaining in the same room in September. I think it is the right place for him, even when new babies come in.

I would be annoyed, and I read something on the NYS website that you must give written permission if you want your infant to sleep on a cot.

REALLY?
Well, as far as his gram read today, he did not sleep in a cot, and only slept for a short time when he did nap.
I guess if it happens again, I will say something.
And yes, I am annoyed that what I and my DH explicitly asked them not to do was done, but I am laid back enough to not get all riled up from the very beginning. I know that there was someone with him while he tired the cot and they would not allow him to do something he didn't like, so that makes me feel somewhat OK.
I just wonder why it was so necessary to be done not more than a week after we spoke about it.....If they could have called me at work to TELL me he slept on it they could have called me to ASK if he could sleep on it.....

He's 9 months old....

And while discussing how I felt about this with DH, I come to find out that HE told the director that it would be OK to try out the cot every once in a while.....

Re: So, remember when I asked your opinion about Gavin transitioning to a cot?

I almost fell over when I saw how old your DS is. They put him on a cot at 9 months old. WOW... I would be pizzed, and I would definatley express how upset I was.
Then I would beat my DH up for opening his mouth without telling me! Maybe if he was older but hes still an infant..

I have to say that I agree even though I still think he is a little young for a cot...but...if it ain't broke, don't fix it Chat Icon
