Reference Check
If a HR Department calls you to check a reference, what do they usually ask you about the person?
Someone just asked me to be their reference, and I am just curious as to what I am in for.
Thank you!

Re: Reference Check
If they are reliable, how long have you known them, how you know them, is there any reason why they shouldn't be hired.

Re: Reference Check
If it is a professional reference like a former employer, I think you are only required to confirm the time period they were employed. Anything else does not have to be disclosed if you don't want to. This is what I was told by my former employers.

Re: Reference Check
also, if you are asked about a person's work habits, reliability, etc, and you don't feel comfortable or don't want to shut them out of a job (even though you wouldn't recommend), you can just say that your policy is to only confirm their dates of employment and other personnel data.
