Trying to help a friend. ? about food pantry places

I am trying to help out this young couple I know in my area. My question is does anyone know of any food pantrys around the Ronkonkoma area? I have some stuff put together for them but I wanted to send them in the right direction if they need more.

They are great people. Always working. She hurt herself and can't work. Without her income they are having a hard time making ends meet.

The DH can make the rent and the utilities but sometimes they have to skim on filling the fridge.

They have a 6 year old DS that will be going back to school. They have been selling all they own to make sure he has whatever he needs for school and to eat. They don't live beyond their means at all and I feel bad that even with all this they don't qualify for food stamps.

It just makes me so sad. Any info would be great. Thanks.

There is one on Brooksite Drive just South of Jericho TPK before you get into the town of Smithtown(coming from Commack) It is a church but I used to drive by there all the time and see the sign for the emergency food pantry-I *think* it was Mondays but can't be sure.

This isn't about one specific food pantry, but I believe most churches have outreach programs. When my friend needed it, they helped pay some bills, gave supermarket gift cards and gift card to her son for the holidays. They also packed up food and toiletries for her. Wonderful program.

Also, Parish of the Holy Cross in Nesconset has a food pantry.

My mom volunteers on a farm in Centereach that grows local vegetables. They donate most of it to several different food pantries.

You can try by contacting the Bethel AME Church (631)751-4140 that owns the farm to find out what other pantries they donate to.

Or try the lighthouse mission which is located in patchogue. Their website is www.lighthousemission.net

St Mary's has one it's right by the lake I believe you might want to call and ask. I know they do it with St Lukes
