Pregnant and untenured ??

I've got tenure in my current school, but might consider leaving next year. DH and I just got married in May and weren't planning on Chat Icon Chat Icon for another year or two. But stuff happens.

If I leave my curent school, I'm untenured for at least two years. What happens if I get pregnant? I know they can't legally fire me for it, but can it happen anyway?

If I'm untenured and have a baby, how much time can I take of for maternity leave?

Thanks in advance!!!

They can't fire you for being pregnant. Many people in my school have gone on leave while untenured. I would only take 6 weeks if I were you, though. Also, you will probably only have 12 sick days if you go out your first year, so you will prob. have to borrow some from the district, which means little pay while you are on leave. Well, at least that is how it works in my district. Good luck!

I'm pregnant and untenured...I'm taking 12 weeks because my district prefers that you come back at the end of the marking period (which is fine with me!). They actually just changed their policies and we cannot use sick days for paid leave...it kind of stinks, but I am secretly glad that I will have sick days left for when I come back.

I took twelve weeks when I was untenured. It really depends on the district how much you can take, but legally you are entitled to the 12 weeks FMLA. I wouldn't cut that back to 6 weeks just because of tenure.

i wouldn't do that. take the full 12 weeks. they won't look any differently at you if you take 6 rather than 12 weeks.

not all districts let you borrow. mine doesn't. if you don't have the days, you just don't get paid. but you get the full 12 weeks.
