Missing permanent/adult teeth
My poor daughter has no permanent/adult upper right and left lateral (the teeth on either side of the 2 front teeth) teeth in her gums.
She just lost the baby tooth (at age 11) so now she has a big gap. The tooth on the other side it still there, but probably for not much longer.
We have been told by the dentist she cannot get dental implants until she is around 18. Or else, the other option is to push all her teeth forward (with braces) and file and bond them to look "normal".
Has anyone been through this at all? How did you treat it?
I feel so bad for her - and she is quite upset about it too.

Can she get a bridge? I had to have a tooth pulled recently, it was a molar...the best thing for me to do would be to get an implant, but the oral surgeon said my dentist could do a bridge if I choose. Is that an option for her front teeth maybe? Until she's 18 anyway?
ETA:  for your daughter, I can only imagine how upset she is.

I actually was born with no adult molars at all. everything from the pointed teeth back are baby teeth and the 2 teeth on the top on each side had fallen out, and same thing I was to young for any thing. they put these things over my teeth and it pulled them all forward. I remember going through it, I was 8, but I don't have any long term effects. I remember how painful it was constantly, it took I think less then a year for them to move them completly. I needed them moved so I could get braces on.

My MIL mentioned said to ask about a temporary bridge.
I actually took her to an orthodontist a couple of months ago and he said she wasn't ready for braces (she needs them regardless) because she hasn't lost enough baby teeth (molars) yet. I didn't really care for this orthodontist - he was totally unsympathetic to her situation and had 0 bedside manner. I'm taking her for a second opinion somewhere else - I'll talk to him about a bridge.

so there are 2 kinds of bridges... a permanent kind where they file down the adjacent teeth to stumps and use them as anchors and slide the bridge on top of the stumps, and then a maryland bridge (sp?) where they simply adhere the bridge to the back of the adjacent teeth (no filing down). the latter obviously is more prone to falling off (maybe a couple times a year?), but on the flip side, it doesn't destroy the healthy teeth, so they appear normal after the bridge is removed.
you might want to talk to a few dentists about these 2 options.

Thank you - I don't know too much about bridges.
I guess the second one you mentioned maryland bridge) is the temporary one my MIL was talking about.

i had a friend who had a similar situation (except a dentist "accidentally" pulled the wrong adult tooth  ) and he wore a retainer with a fake tooth attached until he could get an implant. maybe that'd work too.

The first thing that came to my mind was a Maryland bridge simply because you don't want to touch virgin teeth on the opposing sides of the missing teeth. The only downfall is that they aren't as sturdy as permanent 3 unit bridges. So it may come loose occasionally, but it beats touching healthy teeth  and she will look as normal and beautiful as ever wearing it!

I had the same issue (no second set of teeth), but they were molars - front ones, the third or forth tooth over from my front teeth. So it was visible if I smiled, but not as noticeable if it were the front teeth.
I would definitely do the Maryland bridge until she is old enough to go a more permanent route. I have an implant for one tooth and a bridge on the other side. They did the bridge only because an adjacent tooth needed a root canal and it was compromised already. The other side I have the dental implant since the adjacent teeth were in good shape.
