Re: I dont know who to vote for this year

oh boy.

i don't want to "help" you to decide b/c then that is me pushing how i feel on you. why don't you go to border's and buy a DVD or book (depending on if you like to read or watch) on both candidates. i was in there today and they had a whole section on them. learn about them, who they are and how they feel and think about how YOU feel - and then, make YOUR decision.

...or just write in "Charlotte" (my dog) b/c don't even get me started on her experience and strong points! we'll be here all night, really.

I'm actually in the same boat. I'm so torn!!

Are there any CORRECT web sites out there maybe made by each candidate themselves, with REAL info, not each other bashing each other and taking there words out of context to make you believe something that they didn't say??

I have no time to read a book, I just want to know all the facts.

Sorry Dani--but Charlotte does not have a CHANCE against Lucky the Destroyer---aka my cat. Its no secret that Char is scared of her opponent and always backs down from the issues with Lucky is around. Chat Icon

I would look at their Official Gov't sites, not their campaign sites for what they have done (listed in Alpha order):

Senator McCain

Senator Obama

VP Choices:

Senator Biden

Governor Palin

A good site regarding campaign information that is set up by a non-partisan research organization is

Factcheck.org

If you do look at any books on them, make sure you read the inside of the jacket cover and look at who the author is. Try to find someone that has an academic or reporting background. Someone who has worked for politicians before may be skewed to one side or another. Many "biographies" are actually smear campaigns in disguise.

These are excellent sites. I also recommend Politifact

Another great site for cutting through the bull.

Re: I dont know who to vote for this year

You need to ask yourself some questions

-What kind of judges do you want to see in the Supreme Court for decades to come
-What are your views on foreign policy
-How should the healthcare system be handled
-Should a woman have the freedom to choose to have an abortion?
-WHat are the best solutions to our energy problems?

etc etc.

Sorry if this is a silly question - but I think I remembered seeing a website where you could vote on or rank your opinions on various issues and then it would tell you which candidate was a better choice based on your personal views...

Does anyone have that link? Does that even exist?

I dont know who to vote for either. I have never been into politics but I really want to understand everything and vote for the right person this election. I am trying to do as much research as I can but sometimes when I watch the candidates on tv I dont understand the complex answers they give.

I am so torn.

That's a very good "quiz". I like how you can click on each issue and see actually quotes on their stances.

Well, there are DVD's which are shorter and more to the point.

I'm with ya on not being a fan of reading books.

Websites scare me lol there are so many untrue things floating on the internet -- I would say the only thing you might be safe with is the candidates official sites.

Try that! Just listen to Kyle Chat Icon he seems like he has a good head on his shoulders! Chat Icon

I'm just kidding!! As others have said, do some research and vote for someone you choose based on your ideals, values, and beliefs.

Don't forget to pay attention to local elections, too. (That's to everyone, not the OP.) We get so swept up in Presidential elections that we often forget the local elections... and those can have a serious impact on our everyday lives.

Good luck in your research and your decision. Not having your mind made up means you're open-minded and probably most willing to learn good and bad about both candidates. That's a good thing at this stage. Chat Icon

Re: I dont know who to vote for this year

I'm not sure if this would work for you, but what I did was sit down and decide what's MOST important to me. I'm pro-choice, but that's not a deal-breaker for me; I don't want to pay much more in taxes than I already do, but again there are other things that are more important to me. So after some thought I realized that right now our foreign policy and relations, and the economy are my two biggies. I just did some research to see what each candidate had planned for these subjects, and I will vote for the one I see being more successful based on my beliefs, opinions, views, etc ...

Another thing I try to do is see what each side has to say about the candidates - I'll watch Fox, CNN, MSNBC, read the WSJ, Times, etc ... so I can get a variety of views.
