feeding ?

DS is two weeks old. He takes between 2-4 oz of formula. Today he wants to eat every 2 hours. DH just fed him at 8:30 4 oz and he was just hysterical for another feeding b/c he is doing the crazy sucking thing. I try the pacifier and it doesn't calm him down. I thought with formula they shouldn't be hungry every 2 hours. I know when I was giving him the BM he was. If we give him any more than 4 oz he spits and throws up. Any suggestions on what I should do? Its not like he is starving. He gained 13 oz in 6 days!!!!!Chat Icon Tia

Re: feeding ?

He is probably having a growth spurt, I would give him more.

Re: feeding ?

have you been giving him more when he is crying for more, the past few days? If not, then try it, he might just require more each feeding now, if he has had enough he will spit up. Try by giving him a 1/2 ounce more at his next feeding.

Thanks Chat Icon

We have been giving him more every time he cries. I tried upping his bottles each feeding but he gets lazy and won't take anymore and pushes the bottle out of his mouth!

Re: feeding ?

He is probably still hungry, but needs to acclimate his tummy to taking more formula.

Don't worry.... his tummy will catch up to his appetite soon enough!

Re: feeding ?

I feel like I could've wrote this post myself! DS is doing the same thing. Sometimes he will take 4 oz and sometimes only takes 2.5 oz. It's frustrating b/c I never know how much to give him. Sometimes he falls asleep during his bottle and he will only take 2.5 oz but when he wakes up he cries for the rest. Typcially, he is eating every 2 hours but sometimes he wants more after an hour or so. I can't figure him out!
