Part time Job Per Hour
So, because money is tough for us right (I know, its tough for everyone) DH is going out and looking for a 2nd job. Does anybody know what the hourly rate is for part-time at the following places and what kind of discount you get? According to some research online, they seem to treat their employees well and pay decent:
-Costco -Sams Club -Home Depot -Target
Thanks

Sorry I am not too sure on the specifics but I think the hourly rate would depend on the job description. I would also try Best Buy and Circuit City, besides hourly they also get commission and great discounts.

See my DH isn't a sales person. He would be looking for more of a stock person job (which tends to pay more because its off hours). Plus, right now, DH and I would get better use of a Costco/Sams/Depot/Target discount over Best Buy. We have a baby due in Jan.

Thanks, may add to list. I wish we had a Walmart close though. They are a little far away. (granted Costco & Depot are in my backyard)

I dont think Best Buy employees get commission. At least that is what they touted years ago - how they could give you unbiased advice and 'low pressure sales' due to no commission.

Although - because of your DH's profession, he could probably be a specialist at Home Depot or Lowes which probably pays more.

Re: Part time Job Per Hour
I considered doing this at Target near my house. I was new to my area and thought it might be a good way to meet people (my day job in finance was pretty solitary at the time).
However, they only paid minimum wage for cashier / sales floor and the discount was only 10%.
I am a CPA with an MBA and I decided it wasn't worth my time!

Also many places like this have on-call/Per Diem staff. That way you are not committed to a set schedule---you basically have the option to go in when they call you if you want to go in.
I remember when I worked in this kind of setting, it was cake for the per diem staff. They mostly just filled in on evening, weekend or overnight shifts and didn't really do much at all. You can also find settings where the clients are pretty high functioning so you don't have to do "hands on" stuff.
