Re: Activities to give DURING guided reading groups
They work in differentiated literacy centers. The centers are based on phonics, sight words, vocabulary, comprehension and fluency. The easiest centers to set up are listning centers and independent reading centers. In the listening center you can have them listen to a story and practice taking notes, answer questions, think of questions to ask or whatever skill and strategy you want them to work on. The independent reading center is great because they can select a just right book and work on their reading goal that you set with them while conferencing. You can do a buddy reading center where they read just right books or familiar books to each other. Magnetic letter centers are great to work on word families or practice spelling sight words. You can buy ready made games at Lakeshore (they are pricey but sooooo worth it). We differentiate them depending on need but they work differentiated or not. Hope this helps!

I'd love to knw more too.
I think I am going to have the following:
Read non-fiction books and do main idea/details.
Read a chapter and make predictions.
Do a listening center and do beginning, middle, and end.
Do journal prompts.
