Janet if she is failing almost all of her classes, perhaps she is in the wrong setting? have you met with the special ed. team at her school? there should be more that you and the school can do (make changes to her program possibly) that would enable her to succeed. i think it may be time to re-convene the CSE.

also where are you located? perhaps i can help. i am a special ed. teacher, although not on the high school level.

Re: I could use a tutor for Kryssy 9th grade

i am calling the school tomorrow to set up the second team meeting with the teachers as soon as possible. Depending on what they say at the team meeting i am thinking the same thing that sh needs to be back in 15 :1 but for the time being i need help with her till that can happen and with this school it takes ovr a month sometimes to get the help with the sped. dept... they suck at this school and only care bout the grades and test scores and not as a chilsd as a whole. they make you feel guilty if you try and fight them about hold them back... i was told at her last iep meeting that why do you want to hold her back that is not right... you want her to go foward... yes i do of course i do but mentally she is not ready for it... they said well her grades say differant... i need someone to help her feel better about what she is doing and i think with the help of a tutor it will help for te mean time. i am n the shirley area and i would need someone to be able to come here as y hours i dont' get home till late

i wish i could help, but i don't live anywhere near Shirley!! i think when you reconvene with CSE, you should make sure have a parent advocate with you. legally you are entitled to that and they will help you "fight" for what you think she needs. also, legally, once an IEP is in place, the district only has 60 calendar days to get her into the new program. it should take much less than that since she is already classified an in the system. the first marking period should be ending soon, so this might be the perfect time to make the switch.

i would also see if the school has some sort of homework club or tutoring after school... many do. this might be a good option too.

GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
also, as a parent, you may find some of the info. on this link to help you:

It sounds like you should write a letter to the head of pupil personnel for your district and request a CSE for your daughter. Placement changes have to be made at a CSE, they can't be made at a team meeting. If you wait for the team meeting and then they have to schedule a CSE, it could take months.
If you write a letter requesting a CSE to review your daughters program they must hold a CSE, I think, with 30 days of receiving your letter or they will be in violation of the law.
If she is failing all her classes, you are probably right that she needs more help. Good luck! Remember- you are her best advocate Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Janet - what are the teachers not doing that you asked them to?
