STAR

How long does it take until you receive a reply that you are approved for a STAR rebate? I filled out the paperwork and sent it in at the end of Sept.

I dont think you actually receive a reply from the state. You see it in your December tax statement. Thats how you know. That is what they had told us and I think that is the only notice we received. I have not had to reapply since our first application.

The Town of Islip sent us a post card saying we are approved. I think it depends on the town. YOu will not get the rebate until next year though becasue the cut off date is Jan or March so it will be effecitve for you next year. That being said if you bought your house from someone who had the star rebate you will most likely get it this year but the bills will be in their name.


As for your original question I think it took the Town a few months (4-6) to send me the post card.

It took a few months to get a reply from the town that we were approved for STAR.

since you filed for star in Sept, you wont see the benefit in your name till Jan 2010. Most towns accept forms until March to be effective the following year.

You can always call the town and/or state to see if it was received. We handed in our in person and was approved immediatly
