Anyone's DC ever get a rash from antibiotics?

Waiting for the doctor to call me back but thought I'd ask here.

Lucas had the start of a double ear infection this weekend so the doctor put him on a form of Amoxicillan at a higher dose than last time. This morning I noticed a rash all over his upper back, his neck and face. Not bumpy - smooth and when you push your finger over it the skin goes white and then returns with the rash. He's also been very sleepy lately and not himself but I assume it's because he's sick...I do feel the rash is because of the medicine.

Anyone experience this with their child? What did you have to do?

Yes. DS has been on lots of antibiotic for ear infections. On his last round last month, he was on Augmentin like normal and the infection didn't go away. So they upped the dosage from 3/4 tsp to 1 tsp, twice a day. He got a rash all over the back of his neck, behind his ears and coming around to the side of his face (like the jaw line). It also did not clear the infection. They put him on a new antibiotic (I can't remember the name) and the rash went away and the infection finally cleared up.

ETA The ped did says he wasn't convinced the rash was from the medicine. She had me take him off of it for a day before she wrote a new prescription and he was already starting to look better the next day. That's when she gave me the new script. This is our 3rd antibiotic now

Last year my older one had 1 virus after another and wound up with an ear infection. Amoxacillin gave her a hivey looking rash but doc wasnt sure if it was the meds or roseola rash, she hasn't had penicillin since.

my dd broke out in a terrible terrible rash from augmentin. she can no longer have any type of meds with penicillin in them. And she had had augmentin before, thats what i was surprised about, but my doc told me you can become allergic to something the first time its introduced or the 100th time. So definitly take him in.

I am allergic to penicilion (spelling oops) and I get a similar reaction but my throat also closes (not to worry you) call the Dr as soon as possible.

It's Penicillin based, right?

I did (not DS) with it last time I took. I had to stop. I never had a reaction with it before.

I called my Dr. and you HAVE TO stop that medicine in case of a rash.

I had almost like circle like patches on all my legs.

It was gone 24 hours after I stopped taking it.

I am now concidered allergic to Penicillin.

That's interesting about the rash and penicillen allergy. They never said anything to us like that. I'll have to ask again.

Yes, we went back and they swtich it to some white liquid antibiotic, this was last year, so I can't remember the name of it right now. the rash went away in about 3 days.

yes, both my boys were on the same antibiotic and Matthew actaully got a yeast infection...thanks to someone on here who said that they used atheletes foot cream, and I called the PED and she said that was ok, ad t cleared up in days. That was the only rash they got.

Victoria also had an ear infection and a throat on fire this past weekend and was put on antibiotics at PM Pediatrics.

We also noticed some weird rash on her (along with the bumps as well) but her pediatrican wasn't too concerned to have her come in. PM Pediatrics did explain she could develop a rash that would probably go away - because of her fever.

Once her fever broke - the rash did go away - along with the bumps she had.

She's been slightly more cranky and sleepy the past few nights but sleeping like a rock.

I hope Lucas feels better

No DD hasn't been on antibiotics but she just had roseola and the ped did make a point of saying that if she got a rash like that and was on antibiotics I should call him right away in the future b.c it would have been from the meds and he would take her off them right away and give her something else.
